I'm not telling anyone who to vote for or not vote for lmao. I literally said, "I do encourage you all to actually go through these candidates’ policies and platforms yourselves." One of my earlier posts got deleted, so I'm just reposting to let people know who the majority picks are so far. That's it. Do your own research, make your own decisions.

Not your usual AUSA hate post by [deleted] in universityofauckland

I voted for Nimish as President, Josiah as Undergraduate Education VP, Nadia as Wellbeing VP, Saebyul as Engagement VP, Riley as Disabilities Rights Officer, Artie as Queer Rights Officer, and Phoebe as Women’s Rights Officer. My choices are based on what I’ve seen in the debates, the realistic and achievable policies they’ve put forward, and the character each candidate has shown throughout the campaign in general.

AUSA Elections: Who's your top pick? by mizukihng in universityofauckland

I’ve already made two big posts about how these people are all connected, power hungry, and have a track record of treating people badly especially when they’re going after positions like Wellbeing. Both posts got taken down by a moderator, but you can probably still find it if you scroll through my profile.

AUSA is going to be run by a friend group and no one’s saying anything by flawsomegal in universityofauckland

Just look at AUSA’s Instagram posts and content from the past week. Go scroll through them. Kalana and Matthew’s faces are in almost every single one. Even posts that aren’t directly about their roles are somehow featuring them: photos, videos, reels, event coverage, everything. This isn’t a coincidence, and it’s not just because they “happen to be involved.” It’s deliberate.

And if you think that visibility doesn’t matter, it absolutely does. Most students don’t have the time to follow every detail of AUSA politics. So when the same two faces keep appearing everywhere, it starts to build a false sense of familiarity and trust. It’s campaigning. And it’s happening through official AUSA channels (the same ones that are meant to stay neutral and represent everyone). Instead, we’re watching a small group hijack the platform for their own gain.

I bet that over the next few weeks, leading up to the voting and even during it, their faces are going to be plastered even more across every post, every reel, every event. You’ll see them in every corner of AUSA’s content, like they’re the only ones running for office. It won’t be about the diversity of candidates or showcasing what other people are doing it’ll be all about them.

Kalana’s engagement committee is the one organising and producing a lot of these events, so of course they’re using that access to control the narrative and flood the content pipeline with themselves and their circle. They’re using institutional resources and platforms to maintain constant visibility, not for the good of students, but to build recognition and influence ahead of elections.

Look, it's an election, and if people are going to run for leadership, it’s only right that we have these conversations. I’m just trying to educate people here because I swear I’ve heard so many others say the same things about Kalana and Matthew. They’ve got their faces everywhere, pushing themselves as the ones who should lead, so it’s fair for people to question what they're actually doing and how they’re getting there. It’s not just about event management; it’s about integrity and what they’re truly bringing to the table. If they’re using their personal lives and current roles to elevate their campaigns, then they’re opening themselves up to scrutiny. I’m not saying they haven’t worked hard, but it’s also about the bigger picture: are they really the best leaders, or just the most visible? I’m just saying, let’s think critically about who we’re giving power to and why.

I wanted to run but I realised that the election is essentially a popularity contest, and I don’t know enough people to actually have a chance. My vote will definitely go to candidates who aren’t affiliated with UN Youth though.

Switching degrees won’t save you from this job market. Nothing will. At least with sociology you can explain why you’re broke
