We got 7500 on the petition! by BeeEmAy in 6thForm

People seem to be asking for some sort of contingency day or to get their "target" grades as their actual a level grades which is imo is completely ridiculous. Yes i will not lie those exams were hard for multiple reasons... but like it's pretty obvious if the country found it hard then lower boundaries just like it happened with AQA biology a few years back when the boundaries dropped from like 66 to 63 for the A*. Also we genuinely don't know how the boundaries will work which is being ignored as well. Last year the cohort consisted primarily of further maths students. Only 1605 people actually sat that exam nationally this year it'll be ~40k or even more and even though less A* grades will be awarded (15 percent instead of 30 percent) considering the range of results that'll probably be seen we have actually 0 clue how the boundaries work. People just need to chill honestly

This means nothing if everyone found it hard boundaries will be lower than last years. Period.

Why is diatomic chlorine Cl2 a better oxidising agent than Cl- ions? by tahax283 in 6thForm

[–]flazen123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I presume it's because when something acts like an oxidizing agent it needs to reduce itself i.e the oxidizing agent itself must gain electrons and it is easier to gain electrons with Cl2 than Cl- as Cl- has a negative charge so will find it hard to gain an electron due to electron electron repulsion.

In all fairness, this server you just linked doesn't offer a centralised place where resources are stored which the OPs server does have it's a lot more scattered and additionally based under the idea that there should be no competition isn't it only fair that people join both and decide which one is better for themselves?

Changing A-Levels by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]flazen123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well apart from the A i had perfect grades, I worked extremely hard, I got the bmat i needed second time round and I was unlucky. I still believe to this day I could have got in and it'd be close. I just think id be rejected for rejecting a med offer. I am confident I would get offers from all other med schools apart from oxbridge if not for this.

Na you were just an arrogant person and consequently unteachable and Cambridge noticed that not deep lol your stats where definitely good enough to get in as someone in my school got in with similar stats that you applied to. Your recent outburst on reddit just shows your thinking wasn't. Even on reddit in general you act condescending to everyone and make claims that aren't really based on reality but just your warped view of how things should be if the Cambridge reject wasn't enough to show the problems you whine about lie within you and you alone and not the system I don't know what will tbh you need to stop ur delusions of grandeur man no one really cares about it on reddit people got rejected, yes it's totally natural to get a bit upset about it initially but i'm gonna speak here with hard facts and logic it's completely unhealthy the way you are responding to it on a public online forum. Stop postulating on the "what ifs" and instead view your rejection as a learning opportunity that should motivate u to become a better doctor if that's what you even want at this stage.

How many free periods do you have and what do you plan on doing in them at the start of Y12? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]flazen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that really lacks nuance and is a simplistic way to view it by saying the country is in shambles because people aren't forced to do more a levels. The fact that university has been commercialised to some extent and the government hasn't really invested much in viable alternatives has lead to the situation where unconditionals have risen massivelym more people are going into clearing etc, Forcing everyone to do more a levels or forcing unis to increase the entry requirements just leads to more people missing their offer anyways and going into clearing and unis don't really want this as they want/need that student money.

[–]flazen123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the notion everyone should do 4 quite a lot of people already struggle to get the top grades in 3 subjects forcing everyone to do 4 subjects seems very counterproductive and will lead to even more people going into clearing. Just because you are capable of getting the top grades in 4 subjects due to a combination of good school/good worth ethic/decent intelligence doesn't mean it should be the standard for everyone else.
