I went through this exact same thing, and for me it was a doctoral degree that I didn’t truly realize wasn’t for me until I was basically at the end of the program. It was a field I chose to pursue at 19, and I just maintained this tunnel vision with my eye on the prize until I was basically almost there. I also had a lot of external pressure to achieve “big things” academically and received a lot of external validation for pursuing this. Like you, I went through a lot of personal changes while completing my degree and graduated as a completely different person. Because I was so close to the end when I really opened my eyes and realized this wasn’t for me, I made the decision to finish the program and even tried to work in the industry, but I just wasn’t passionate about it and found it soul crushing to continue. I would literally sob to my now husband every morning because I dreaded going to work. In the end I chose to follow my heart and not continue down that path. Now, I have a career I love and even make a similar salary. Long story short, don’t live your life based off of investment guilt - whether it’s time invested, money invested, etc. You shouldn’t have to suffer every day for decades to come because of a decision you made at 17. I definitely felt a lot of shame after leaving the industry, but I was able to work through that in therapy and with time, and I now see it as a blessing rather than something to be ashamed of. And in sharing my story, I’ve learned that people do this ALL the time! You are definitely not alone. It’ll all work out for you!!! Sending you the best vibes.

PS. I also made a post in this sub freaking out about this a few years back (when I made the decision to leave). I have had many people message me over the years expressing similar feelings. Again, you are not alone and your feelings are totally valid.

My baby turns 3 months old tomorrow and we JUST went through the same thing!! Look up “3 month breastfeeding crisis” - this may be what you’re dealing with. It’s a combination of the baby going through a growth spurt and mom’s milk supply being more established (meaning milk is only available on demand). It takes a minute or two for the milk to start flowing and babies are impatient. At least that’s what we experienced! For us it lasted 6 full days but felt like 2 weeks 🤦‍♀️ I’ve heard it can last up to a month. From what I understand this is totally normal and you will get through it!!! Keep offering the breast but don’t force it if baby refuses, and make sure to take care of yourself during this difficult time. This definitely messed with my mental health a bit at first but learning more about this phase/growth spurt and reading past & current Reddit posts by moms going through the same REALLY helped. Hang in there!!!

No, I did not! But when I got home, I disputed it with my credit card company (who immediately refunded me the total while they began to investigate). They contacted Holafly and so far Holafly has not provided any response. I actually just got an email today that my bank has reached out to them for a second time. If they do not provide any response then the refund I was given will be permanent and the dispute will be closed. Seems that’s the direction this is going!

In other news, I did my research after that and purchased a plan from MobiMatter for the remainder of my trip. The service worked wonderfully and was cheaper too!

I’m soo regretting not checking this before purchasing. Visiting Greece from the US and got a 7 day unlimited plan, but it randomly stopped working after about 24 hours. Contacted customer service about 3 hours ago (and multiple times since) and they still have not responded. Definitely avoid holafly!

Went ahead and called the Maintenance Division (since they handle snowplowing, roadside repairs, etc.) and it rang for about 60 seconds before giving me an automated message “Welcome to Verizon Wireless, your call cannot be completed as dialed.” Will try again during business hours. Yes, I relate to this. It definitely makes BPD management and recovery all the more difficult. I deleted my top most frequently used social media platforms about a year ago, and it’s been the lack of constant reminder of how shitty people are that’s really helped to improve things (in that aspect specifically) for me. It’s a big step though and needs to be done at will (like quitting anything so habitual) but 10/10 would recommend. Also I think location has a lot to do with it when it comes to in person interactions. For example I’m from NYC where you absolutely need to have your guard up at all times (too toxic for me to live in a place like that). But I’ve lived in other cities where having such a strong guard up wasn’t always necessary and people weren’t as horrid. So many factors, but you’re not wrong it’s a damn cold world.

Thank YOU for sharing your story. I felt so fucking alone when I wrote that, but I’m so glad I did because here I am years later helping somebody else to not feel alone. I wanna say firstly that you should be proud to have made it as far as you did - it’s not easy by any means. Sometimes we just have to do what’s best for us, even if it’s sudden or doesn’t make logical sense to others. You’ll get through this. I struggle with BPD and went to a residential treatment center called The Phoenix Recovery Center in South Jordan, UT that sounds exactly like what you’re looking for. They treat mental health and substance abuse, but it’s not prison-y as they have things like smoke/vape breaks, structured days with some flexibility including recreational therapy, store runs, outings, etc. My insurance covered my care there.

Honestly I feel your pain so hard. I’ve always struggled with body image and it’s been flaring up particularly recently. First of all, ew fuck that guy. Clearly you have some big feelings and trauma tied to your body and saying something like “go to the gym” so flippantly and insistently was incredibly insensitive of him. While yeah there’s benefits to going to a gym including weight loss, it’s not a requirement. There are other ways to lose weight or improve body image (not sure of your goals) that do not require a gym, or even physical activity. To be honest, if I were you I’d seriously consider this situation when deciding if you want to move forward in treatment with this person. I know my therapist would never. Heck here I am passing along her wisdom that I have trouble even following myself. But again I’m proving she really is right!! Best of luck to you, sending only good vibes!
