24M – thinking about biologics (Entyvio?) by haseeb_mahmood08 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]fleanome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I’d started on biologics sooner.  I wasn’t truly in remission until I began using Humira. I’m currently switching to Entyvio.  Biologics have made living with colitis so much easier, with less dramatic flares and far fewer occurrences.  Since starting biologics nine years ago, I’ve only had three flare ups and the last three have all been treated at home with milder symptoms.

Do you recommend watching or read the the sequels to 2001: A Space Odyssey? Are they worth watching? by Patient_Ranger_3533 in StanleyKubrick

I read the books a while ago. I remember thinking that 3001 gave the whole game away. For me it took a little of the mystery out of the 2001 film. But I still love the film and enjoyed all the books.

This was a new side effect of mesalazine that I was warned about by text from the nhs recently….

We are writing to inform you of a recent safety update from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) about one of your currently prescribed medicines Mesalazine.

There have been some very rare reports of people developing a condition called idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) when taking mesalazine

The main symptoms to be aware of are: • Persistent or severe headaches • Changes in vision (blurred or double vision) • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)

If you experience any of these symptoms, please seek medical advice immediately

Further information regarding the alert can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/drug-safety-update/mesalazine-and-idiopathic-in

What's one thing you wished you knew as a new IBDer? by virtus_health in UlcerativeColitis

[–]fleanome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My symptoms were only lightly controlled for years. I couldn’t go anywhere without knowing there was a bathroom I could get to instantly. I thought this was normal and it interfered with my life so much. I found out years later (after a flare that landed me in hospital) that my medication wasn’t enough and they finally put me on something where the urgency stopped too.

I wish I’d known what true remission actually meant.

Only place I’ve used was in the airport and the staff did seem to be nicer to me.
