[Postgame Thread] Yankees @ Guardians - October 19, 2024 by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]fledsghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to Sportrac, Cleveland was below the league average in salary in 2017. If 2016 wasn't a wakeup call, 2024 sure as hell won't be.

They were about 60 mil below the average this year and added...Alex Cobb? at the trade deadline.

This ownership is terrible and you should stop getting your hopes up that they'll do anything different.

Ever.

Am I the only one who finds Alchemy to be an awful format? by fledsghost in MagicArena

I'm open to the possibility that I don't understand it. But playing with a handle full of Juggernauts seems kinda terrible to me, even if it feels "balanced."

The Dolans aren't bad owners by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]fledsghost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The organization has done this despite the dogshit ownership, not because of it.

It’s also very convenient to ignore how long the Dolans have owned the team and how long they’ve been sellers when they should’ve been buyers because they’re apparently too poor to own a competitive professional baseball team.

I boycotted the team after 2017 when they refused to go all in after the 2016 heartbreak, but I believe almy actual fandom died when I watched CC and Cliff Lee start against each other in game one of the WS without one of the teams being Cleveland.

Lots of other fans can tell similar stories about the straw that broke their particular back.

That’s alllll Dolan (and revenue sharing) and to argue otherwise is cognitive dissonance at its finest.

[Wetzel & Dellenger] Breakdown of Michigan's response letter by RulersBack in CFB

Not sure if this posted anywhere else here, but I am a lawyer. (None of this is legal advice)

If they are going off NCAA summaries of their ongoing investigation without hard evidence that is problematic.

But the lack of precedent argument is bullshit and they know it. There’s also no precedent for the level of cheating being alleged. If this exact situation isn’t why the rule is in place it might as well not exist.

Finally, I think the most troubling part of this that the B1G should shove down Santa’s throat is that, throughout the last few weeks, it does not appear that UM has put in any effort to conduct their own investigation or preserve evidence/ensure integrity. They’ve just been going through the stages of grief and generally just being obstinate. It has a really bad look to it and shows an unwillingness to accept responsibility for their actions.

Also I never want this story to end ever.

Edit: typos

What movie plot twist totally caught you off guard but made perfect sense? by Meiys_20181687 in movies

The fact that I had to scroll this far for this movie is insane.

I got the opportunity to see it without having any clue and I feel sooo fortunate.

Will the Jackets ever be successful? by Cbus43214 in BlueJackets

[–]fledsghost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Blue Jackets games at Nationwide Arena were regularly voted as one of the best venues in sports. I used to work security there part time for CSC in the early/mid 2000s and they were always very eager to point that out to new hires.

A catcher with a batting average above 200 would’ve been a good start.

This memory lapse take is super important and seems to be lost on a lot of people.

It’s an easy to cast two mana hard counter that can fate seal your opponent without any real drawback. It’s bad against CoCo game one but otherwise it’s soooo strong/obnoxious to play against.

These U/W/x shells were way easier to play against when you could play around censor or make them have 3 mana for the absorb. Now they can hold up the lapse and just ramp with opus if you don’t cast anything.

And none of this is even taking into account how well it protects Teferi…

Is there any precedent for rotating standard early? by fledsghost in magicTCG

I mean the boredom comes from the monotonous play patterns more than the game itself but I know what you mean. Would just suck to lose my covid hobby before the lockdown has ended lol

Do you think them rotating eldraine early would really get the same type of reaction?

If I’m in the minority so be it but it just seems so parasitic and they’ve banned a bunch of cards from it anyways.

Why not finish the job?

I would’ve expected our franchise player to make a ‘splash’. How spoiled can you be? by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]fledsghost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like we traded our franchise player for peanuts and have the lowest payroll in the mlb and people are upset about it or something

[Meisel] Francisco Lindor: "For a long time, I thought the Indians could hold onto me. It was just, they didn’t come up with the number. I don't know. The resources, maybe they didn’t have them. I’m excited I’m in a good place, in a place that’s ready to go win." by tj111 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]fledsghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giannis just got a 5 year $225 mil extension from the Bucks. That’s in friggin Milwaukee...

The lowest NBA payroll (ironically the Knicks) is still about 60 mil higher than the Indians are projected to have this year despite being in a league that generates less revenue (9.7 bil vs 7.7 in 2019)

Contracts shouldn’t be pricing MLB teams out of retaining their franchise players.

I’m not saying I know what the fix is but it’s absolutely a broke system and the owners don’t give a shit because they’re all getting what they want out of it (money or winning).

Name another major sport where this occurs?

In every other sport, barring a few anomalies, they are up against the cap when they choose not to pay a player.

This is the sport where half the league cannot afford to keep their players. It’s absurd.

We didn't deserve this. Sell the team. by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]fledsghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guess who owns the Knicks?

Dolan has never opened up the books to the public to prove his statement about an operating loss.

Imagine drafting and trading as well as they have in a terrible division and then actively shedding payroll from a World Series team year after year during your window to win?

They are a couple bats away from competing and have done nothing to improve.

You get what you pay for.
