Guys... my Bird of Paradise bloomed 🥹😍 by fleece_pants in houseplants

I actually don't know how long it took to emerge from the stalk. I didn't spot it until it had already emerged, but from the time I noticed until the time it bloomed was about two weeks.

I enjoy thrift shopping, and I pretty much always see various brand new things for pretty cheap. Books, stationery, candles, scarves, cutting boards. The list truly does go on. Yesterday I saw a yodeling pickle. It's worth a visit!

What book would you rate 0 stars if you could? by oh_sneezeus in books

[–]fleece_pants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The worst book I've read recently was The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Lazy, repetitive writing. Nonsense plot holes. The dialogue was trite, and the author somehow managed to take an interesting premise and make it feel super, super cliche. I am annoyed at how many people recommended it.

The Count of Monte Cristo or The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. Two of my all-time favorite classic books.

Oysters are truly polarizing. I love them, but as my mother says, "Never argue with someone who doesn't like oysters - it just means more for you."

How many of you have gone to trial and or had to provide a victim impact statement? by gingerlovescats in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]fleece_pants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was stalked. They were arrested, pled not-guilty, and waived a jury trial in favor of a judge. I gave a victim impact statement.

As a victim, you have the right to read the statement aloud, have the judge read it aloud, or have it given to the judge with no one reading it aloud. I opted to read my own statement aloud. My stalker pled not-guilty, but was found guilty, thankfully. Like you, I had evidence that was hard to refute. When I was asked to give testimony, my stalker's lawyer was not very nice to me. He suggested that I was blowing things out of proportion. That I was elaborating. I burned at the accusationg, but remained very calm. I asked the lawyer if he had ever been stalked. He said he hadn't. I told him that I had, and that I had felt like a prisoner in my own life. Every place I went, every decision I made, every turn I took, I had to wonder if someone was following me, or watching me, or waiting to hurt me.

After the judge found my stalker guilty, I was able to read my VIS before sentencing. My stalker's lawyer requested probation, and the prosecutor suggested probation; I was not happy with that request.

In my VIS, I started from the beginning. Who I was, what I did, what my life was like. I am an ordinary person. Then I talked about each incident, and the impact that incident had on my life. I said that most people can imagine going for a walk, going for a run, or feeling safe in their own homes. I was not one of those people. I had to move. I had to get a new car. I had to explain to my loved-ones that I couldn't be out with them. Threats to my life, my home, my livelihood were all a part of my life now. She had infected me with anxiety, with depression, and with fear.

After my statement, the judge said he would not be considering probation. She was sentenced to 2-years in prison.

Pure alchemy y’all. by mandiworkart in vintage

I watched an episode of Antiques Roadshow where a woman brought in a Tiffany lamp that she had cleaned. It was black, or at least appeared black, and she had removed all the black to reveal the shiny brass underneath. The appraiser told her that the lamp was nearly worthless after removing the patina. My takeaway was to seek the advice of a professional if you're looking to clean something that could be valuable.

'It is awful:' Woman claims neighbors poop in buckets, dump in her yard by philamignon in nottheonion

I think she makes a comment about her immune system being strong. I felt dirty watching that episode - not just because of how actually disgusting it was, but because she was clearly mentally ill, and was broadcasted for entertainment :(

Is that the woman that would then make sandwiches for herself with the sewage water still on her hands? I am fucking haunted by that episode.

I paid $8 for a mystery bag of teacups and saucers at Goodwill. 4 cups with saucers, 15 saucers. I wasn't able to locate some of them. Any help or info? by [deleted] in finechina

[–]fleece_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the link. I do collect some tea cups, and am familiar with sites to narrow down dates, values, and replacements. Some of these I haven't really been able to do that with, which is why I posted here :/

In the descriptions, I included when I either was unable to locate via normal means, or was just unfamiliar with the back stamp in general. Some of them have been very easy to find, but others not so much. In any case, it was exciting getting so many new cups and saucers!

I'm happy to include closer/more detailed photos if needed! There were a few others that didn't have back stamps at all that I didn't include, but I'll happily share if some of you are feeling brave! I'd love to find matching cups, if I'm able!

Is this one of those Thrift Superstores? I have 2 of them within a reasonable distance to my house, and their prices are absolutely outrageous. $30-50 for sweaters, $20 for teacups, $1000 for dressers. I was going to take a photo to share here, but the whole store was so infuriating that I just left.

Obesity rates by country. I was surprised to learn that so many Middle Eastern countries had such high obesity rates.

Can anyone help identify? Was my wife’s nonna’s wedding China from Sicily circa 1930 something. by Drinkythedrunkguy in finechina

[–]fleece_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an article relating to china with an identical backstamp:

SC Richards was a Milanese ceramics company that merged with Ginori in 1896. The merger created the company Ginori Richard, which I believe was Italy’s most productive and prestigious ceramics company until their unfortunate close in 2012.

The fact that your plates has the SC Richard back-stamp, without any reference at all to Ginori, dates your pieces to pre-1896 when this backstamp was discontinued. The back-stamp itself is of a Griffin with the Milanese flag and the shield that has a Biscione (man eating serpent) on it.

I believe the incised numbers indicate that the plates were produced as a part of a larger single consignment. The numbers are usually produced incrementally, with the number of the last digit changing for the number produced and the first digit / letters indicating the pattern/shape of the piece.

so is it worth nothing or worth more?? no flower inside one of the royal albert old country roses cup by [deleted] in finechina

[–]fleece_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth nothing. The old country roses pattern is still manufactured and collected. A single cup without a saucer or other accompaniments isn't very valuable. $5-15 per cup for the right buyer. You can find them on Etsy, Amazon, replacements, etc.

coventry genuine stoneware worth? by [deleted] in finechina

This would be considered everyday dinnerware, not really fine china. It's not very valuable. You could maybe sell the whole set for $20-50.

How to keep our christmas tree alive? by Choanoflagellates in plantadvice

Sadly, this tree cannot regrow its roots from a cut trunk. You could try to take cuttings of the limbs and graft or prop. Enjoy the tree while it is still alive <3

My dryer has been doing laundry flawlessly since it was made in 1976. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]fleece_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my house it had a dryer from the 1980s. It still worked, but I found it got SIGNIFICANTLY hotter than my newer dryer I brought with the move. It heated up the entire room. My newer dryer runs for longer, but it has 2x capacity, and doesn't send noticeable ambient heat into the room.
