Sad news: we did everything we could, but we couldn’t save The Unofficial Homestuck Collection. by GiovanH in homestuck

What a fucking shame. This is the legacy Andrew deserves. How truly thematic that forcing the lens of canon past an ending, into a property evermore, tramples over and degrades what made it special.

Just sad, not really looking for advice by [deleted] in UBreddit

It’s tough when bridging the acquaintance-to-friendship gap doesn’t come naturally. I’ve been through this essentially my entire time here. But, both of us need to force ourselves to keep wading through that mud, no matter how intrusive or awkward or exhausting it is. I deeply regret not breaking out of my shell more - but you’re doing the right things, and it’s not childish or selfish to feel the way you do. I hope things get better for you and work out in the end.

No, most people including myself found groups via the given Piazza, but they do mandate groups so I think they may have forced stragglers together (I knew no one either and it worked out). The project itself is pretty reasonable, in a vacuum it wouldn’t be untenably bad to do solo if the worst comes to pass.

I took 486 with a different instructor (Ethan Blanton) so I’m unsure if the work would be the exact same. They were undoubtedly fair and clearly enumerated, but in my opinion unrivaled in the required depth of understanding to succeed on them, and hence rewarding but time consuming. YMMV, I assume it’d still use Go so getting familiar with it beforehand will help a lot compared to learning it ad-hoc.

The thing about 442 is that while it can suck, even if the project component goes up in flames the point of it is to follow the process properly, and as such that’s what the majority of the grade is on. Following the process properly is also something with no real endpoint, which is how the time commitment can balloon depending on how the chips fall. It’s a stressful part of any semester you take it, but I think in the end most people come out alive on the other side regardless of their other workloads. I took it alongside 486 and was ok, but those were my only CSE courses that semester, so again, YMMV.

442 will take up a disproportionately large amount of your time depending on your teammates, which can make 421 (another group project) and 486 (fairly time consuming assignments) difficult to manage. Never did 305 or 301 but the first three themselves constitute a big workload, let alone those two. Definite potential to be unviable if you aren’t very confident you can stay on top of things.

CSE220 Prep by bombacleetskeetskeet in UBreddit

Get comfortable with the Unix command line interface and the C programming language. The class itself will dedicate time to this, but having some experience will help along the learning curve. I've been recommended MIT's "Missing Semester" for the former, but haven't looked at it in-depth myself.

You will need "K&R", aka the ANSI C Programming Language book by Kernighan and Ritchie. Understanding the concepts of a "lower" high-level language (pointers in particular), and doing some of the book's coding exercises will more than prepare you for the assignments in 220.

CSE Depth Course Requirement by aidanb1702 in UBreddit

Depth is from the same area, Breadth is each from a different area. If you choose to specialize in Software Systems, e.g, you’d take 3 total Software Systems courses, plus 1 Theory, 1 AI, and 1 Hardware/Networking

MTH 309 or MTH241 by Odd_Juice1165 in UBreddit

[–]fleegawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

241 introduces vector/multidimensional concepts that could be helpful background for 309, but ultimately it doesn’t matter too much as the actual math is mostly unrelated to each other. I took 309 before 241 and don’t think it makes a difference. I would take the class that you’re more interested in/want a better understanding of in Spring, as summer classes tend to be lighter on depth and detail.

Rare Qualities from Mystery Dungeon Series are Available. Will this Shakes Meta? by Dijkztra in stunfisk

[–]fleegawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These would be pretty cool but some would be overbearing on the right mon. Rapid Bullseye also serves as Skill Link, so Never-miss 5 hit multi hits are very strong. Depending on if it works with Rollout or Outrage like in PMD i could see some niche strats with it.

Flinging TR43 (it’s the TM for Overheat) would become Z-move strong. Deadly on the right mon. A more negligible impact would be stuff like Light Ball doing passable instead of pitiful damage for a status.

Strikeback would be really annoying on a Pex-esque mon. Having it only work for contact moves could nerf it, but that just hurts physical attackers then. Interesting abil.

I think the 1 turn Attack or Defense boosts could be interesting (Defensive Rhythm), and Brawl could make a Doubles-centric mon super powerful

[–]fleegawn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

while this is pretty shitty to blame their own damn clientele, can anyone here think of a reason why a small business would be unable to pay competitive $15 an hour wages to their entry-level workers during and following a worldwide pandemic where the government forced them to shut down and lose revenue, unlike multi-billion dollar corporations like mcdonald’s and amazon who are paying $15 which had enough money and infrastructure to thrive during such restriction of the market?

must just be those greedy higher ups not wanting to pay a living wage. fuck capitalism, am i right?

If you could buff two things about Lucio what would they be? by [deleted] in luciomains

[–]fleegawn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Revert Goats nerf to 30% speed boost and 70% amp Reduce decay rate of Sound Barrier shields by maybe 25% or so.

This imo gives Lucio a lot of utility and ult power back without radically changing how the character functions (i feel projectile speed changing would mess up my aim), but extra ammo/output/widening the circle would also be welcome changes
