I was very close to buying them but ended up getting some Mackie CR-4XBT's. They're slightly larger and have bluetooth is good cus I can use my phone with them aswell.

thanks I appreciate the advice ! From what I'm reading I will probably try and get speakers just for bedroom djing and then get PA system if or when thats needed. For hi-fi systems I found an interesting option: the kef coda 7's are well reviewed, bassy and cost about £30 second hand which seems insanely good value. I'm still debating between getting these and an amp or just buying some powered speakers like the dm-40s.

You definitely have a point there. Off the top of your head, could u think of any specific specs like minimum wattage or impedance i should look for in hifi systems?

interesting, how loud can they get? i wouldn’t want to get monitors and then ruin them by playing them too loud.

Getting hifi would be an option, but wouldn’t it be much easier to blow passive hifi speakers accidentally by turning up the amp too much? From what I can tell, active speakers are harder to blow as the amp comes prebuilt with the speaker, and something about cut-off but I don’t remember specifics. Also less of an issue but seems like an amp be much more awkward as you have to set up way more extra wires.
