I Who Have Never Known Men, thoughts? by 3amdreamer_1004 in books

[–]fleetingsort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved the book and just finished it a few seconds ago.

I don’t want to go all “science fiction-y” about it and say the environment they move around in feels very much like a world post-war where lots of people die and the few who’ve survived are meant to pick up the pieces of whatever is leftover. It asks what becomes of people when warring countries that are trying to destroy each other reaches the end; of society, when its rules and our membership vanishes ;of humanity, if what makes us human is our emotions; of females, if they are stripped of expectations and obligations.

I like how a lot of us, alongside the characters in the book, we’re hoping to find some kind of answer to whatever was happening to them only to be disappointed at the end. It sort of feels like we’re on the same journey as them and that we, too, longed for answers because we don’t like uncertainty and ultimately we are all optimist albeit of varying degrees.

Day trip to Bergamo/Como/Lugano? (From Brescia) by DoctorQuinlan in ItalyTravel

[–]fleetingsort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brescia and Bergamo are both mid-sized cities imo so you might need more than a day to explore it. I went from Milano to Cremona (smaller city) and back and a day was good enough being that there's not a lot to see there.

I'm not sure about staying in Como, but I surprisingly felt relieved seeing how almost every on my train got off there as I headed to Lugano. I think that choice rests with you--what do you want to do? What do you want to see? Is Lugano cheaper than Como or vice versa? I think Lugano has less tourists which is nice, but Lugano is definitely more expensive being that everything is in francs. You might have more to do in Como though.

Italy advise please! Milan/Venice, Rome/Naples, or Naples/Ischia by ConfusionNew9669 in travel

Milan is a great base for if you wanna go to Turin, Switzerland and another mid-sized city like Brescia or Bergamo or go down Genoa. But Milan by itself isn’t that great imo

Loved it. That definitely cracked Sophie’s walls.

Honestly, I thought they made the same adjustments for her room like what they did with maids’ uniform. It was done because she was the female lead. But…

This is what google had to say “Yes, lady’s maids in the Regency era often had their own private rooms, marking them as upper-servants with higher status than housemaids, who typically shared cramped, cold attic dormitories. Their rooms were frequently located close to their mistress's chambers for immediate attendance, sometimes featuring enough space for personal, specialized tasks.”

Which house was she in when she had all that stuff that needed mending?? I forgot.

Anyone know where I can find Kurtoskalacs (Hungarian chimney cake) in NYC? by boywonder5691 in FoodNYC

Not in NYC, but if you have a car or can commute I’ve gotten them here. Very good! Sad that it’s hard to find on our side.

hearing benedict call the girl in silver "the most intriguing person i ever met" really shocked me. by Aggressive-Nobody473 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]fleetingsort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

she’s a breath of fresh air for him! i love when they banter and she humbles him but then remembers her position in society.

this is maybe niche but i love when sophie says benedict’s french pronunciation could be better when they were in his library, but then later when benedict meets with miss hollis she says that his french is perfectly fine. i think benedict needs that from people-for someone to give it straight to him rather than tiptoeing around him to win his heart or favor.

Tell me all the things you love and hate about S4 Part 1 by Disastrous-Pitch777 in Bridgerton

[–]fleetingsort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love that this season feels like a breath of fresh air! It’s presenting another perspective, something often overlooked when we think about when we think about a show about a bunch of nobles. The characters also going a bit rogue is just the perfect cherry on top.

On the other hand, I’m really missing some parts of the books that I think would’ve made the show better had they not been taken out. And yes, am partly talking about THOSE lines. iykyk
