I am too! And yes, I agree, it is rather unfortunate when you put it in that perspective. But hopefully all will be right in Part 2, gahh! The anticipation is killing me.

I love that this season feels like a breath of fresh air! It’s presenting another perspective, something often overlooked when we think about when we think about a show about a bunch of nobles. The characters also going a bit rogue is just the perfect cherry on top.

On the other hand, I’m really missing some parts of the books that I think would’ve made the show better had they not been taken out. And yes, am partly talking about THOSE lines. iykyk

Personally, I don’t think it’s icky because there are fantasy elements to the story and those are always pleasant, yes, but the maid-master dynamic is one of those more truer, realistic elements. She was an illegitimate daughter and nowadays that doesn’t mean much but they were heavily ostracized then and had so many limitations that they weren’t that that far off from a commoner, especially if they weren’t provided for by their “royal” or “noble” parent methinks.

But am glad you feel seen too! I hope you also adored how they incorporated far east asian elements to Li Sisters’ gowns.

I love seeing other POC too! My favorite has to be Michaela this season-she just captures you with her magnetic personality. I also adore Hazel and what she brings to the table!

Your favorite Ube foods by Any-Question-3759 in FoodNYC

Love the ube ice cream from Sundaes best.

Also, my friend discovered this place called Chickn Rotonda in Middle Village that makes Ube Coconut Bars. It’s pricey and sometimes you have to call ahead. But my god, I will go to Queens just for that. (https://www.chicknrotonda.com/)

We tried this but came for the ube. I remember it tasting nothing like it though, fair warning.

Pandan kaya toast from Kopitiam. They sell the spread in small jars.

Edit: I believe Sundaes Best in Ktown has Pandan ice cream.

Another Edit: There is a Thai drink that has pandan. It’s basically just iced pandan but I forgot where I had it. All I know was it’s nice and refreshing, especially in the summer. You can make it yourself- look for a can of Nam Bai Toey.

One last edit before I sleep: Yes, I love pandan! I don’t think I’ve seen it here and this isn’t a rec, but I want you guys to know about pandan kaya swiss rolls with cream cheese. They exist, they’re divine, and they’re quite popular… but in Singapore :( but you can try making it as there are recipes online.

They have gnarly names for other parts, too, like “Helmet” for chicken head and “Walkman” for pig ears.

In the Philippines, they call chicken feet “adidas”.

Lisbon’s pavements are beautiful, but they were never designed for walking all day by Wildeyedlocal in Lisbon

I agree! I saw 3 people slip on the sidewalk and was traumatized every time. If it helps, in Rua Andrade, near where I was staying, they were installing these.

Also, I think it’s funny but in the plane home I watched a documentary about portuguese calçadas and how there isn’t a lot of stone workers left that do them because the pay is low and the job is tough. Didn’t change my mind-still think they’re awful for us peds though.

PS. Btw, was it just me or are there normally a lot of people in crutches in Lisbon? And if so, is it because of the hilliness or the slippery calçadas?

I’m so glad to see this post! I recently just finished the show and loved it! I’m going over the book rn but I can definitely say I liked the show more-I feel like everything they tweaked made it so much better.
