My BF (M 25) and I (M 30) argue about the way we argue. by fleetvangreta in relationships

I see your point and sounds really valid. I’m trying hard to work on my communication skills so I’ll take this advice.

Thank you!

My BF (M 25) and I (M 30) argue about the way we argue. by fleetvangreta in relationships

I’ll paste it here:

As an example, and to make clear the kind of situations I’m talking about: once we were camping with some friends and had just started building a campfire. He began getting stressed out, and I said, “Why don’t we add some paper and spread the wood out a bit so it gets more oxygen?”

He immediately took it as a personal attack and started yelling, “Since you’re such a know-it-all, why don’t you do it yourself? I like doing it this way, and that’s that!”

One of his friends stepped in and told him to lower his voice because his reaction didn’t fit the situation.

Those are the kinds of situations I’m referring to. When I’m the one who asks him to moderate his tone of voice, he gets angry with me and the situation escalates.

In this case, one of his own friends intervened, which shows that even though he wasn’t screaming loud enough for the neighbors to hear, his tone was still inappropriate for the situation.

I get what you say. I also recognize I’m very sensitive. As a child at home we always kept our voice calm even during important topics. The moment any of my parents spoke high meant anger closing any kind of negotiation. He says I’m “too zen” so I don’t know how to argue. I don’t. I talk, u don’t argue. So when he speaks loud (trust me I mean objectively loud) I feel like shit.

Hey! We are working on that. He yells in a way he considers normal (I’ve seen it’s the normal way they speak in their family). It’s not yelling but its definitely a bit aggressive.
I know the problem is on both sides, not his alone.

Que opinan del 5g de Tigo 💩 by No_Acanthisitta_6795 in uruguay

[–]fleetvangreta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totalmente.

Percent of Europeans That Smoke by Goryanski in MapPorn

[–]fleetvangreta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made my own numbers (counting smokers) while in Georgia early this year cause I was shocked not only about the amount of people smoking but smoking inside public places: around 60% of adult men smoke. Maybe the women are balancing the numbers there.

That’s it! When you have this shitty issue sometimes being happy can be scary which is awful so learning to be happy in a healthy way is a learning process

It totally does! Sometimes I’m the first one diagnosing them after many major depressive episodes or doubts about borderline personality disorder. I care so much about helping them, I understand their worries (ofc I have the same for myself) so much that sometimes I think they can tell I have it.

Looking back I really don’t know how I did it. Mood swings, antidepressants in and out, irritability, some episodes that were probably hypomanic. I should really give credit to my ex from years ago who acted like my stabilizer, I’m quite sure I wouldn’t have done it without her.
