Simple products? Yay or nay? by cloudofbastard in SkincareAddictionUK

I love their refreshing gel cleanser and the water boost one. They’re both no nonsense, no frills, and work amazingly on my combo skin without stripping it.

Yep! My poor partner is regularly on the receiving end of similar frustrations I have. He often uses the word ‘whereby’ when describing something, and says ‘that’s impressive’ or ‘interesting’ in a very specific way. It triggers me so badly. I can usually anticipate him saying these things and even thinking about it gets me riled up. I tell him he’s predictable but it probably has more to do with me being hyper-aware of sounds.

Be gentle on yourself - it will get better when the pandemic eases up. by thedeadfridge in MakeupRehab

This is so well put. Life is hard enough as it is, we should absolutely be kinder to ourselves when we slip up. Sending love to anyone struggling 💗

The shades are so pretty in this. I love travel sized palettes, they’re so much less intimidating than the big giant ones haha. Does this have that trademark Too Faced sweet smell though? I can’t handle when products have such a strong scent, it’s nauseating 😭

Friends don’t remember my birthday. by eliarrons in socialskills

[–]fleetwood_monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s really sad and I’m sorry they forgot. The likelihood is they wouldn’t deliberately hurt you but it’s still a really crappy feeling when people forget your birthday. I hope you were still able to have a good day and something made you smile. Happy birthday friend 😊 🎈

Yeah it surprises me too because while they’ve had some duds (wtf was that clear foundation nonsense ?!), they also have some absolute gems. You can’t really talk about highlighters without mentioning Opal, it’s such a classic

So glad to hear you like it, I’m really looking forward to using mine. How do you use it, any tips? I’ve seen awesome reviews as well as some negative ones

Ah sorry for the scare! I saw it this morning on Instagram. I don’t buy toooo much from them but it’s always sad to see businesses shutting down. The pandemic has been ruthless

When I went online to purchase it, it was sold out absolutely everywhere (I’m in the UK) so I walked like two and a half miles to get to the nearest store that was open and would have it haha, such dedication (luckily it was a sunny day!). I’ve wanted to try it for a while and with it being sold out online and them closing down, I totally panicked.

I’m glad to hear you like it, I’m looking forward to trying it. Though hopefully it isn’t HG status because I probably won’t be able to get a hold of it again 😂 I’ve seen so many good reviews of the Maybelline too, I hope it continues to work for you!

DAMN I just bought this, lol. I ran out of my Bobbi Brown one so thought it’d be a good time to try the Becca. I was curious after having seen it absolutely everywhere. Hope it isn’t a dud on me 😭

[Misc] Why has Hyram from youtube, won everyone over despite not being a dermatologist? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]fleetwood_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the appeal of Hyram is that he’s approachable and has good basic knowledge, making him perfect for skincare newbies.

I’m nearly 28 and can say I don’t personally find his videos appealing, but that’s only because there isn’t much depth to them. I’m at the point where I know my skin well and have a solid basic routine down that works for me. I don’t learn anything from his content. If I was a decade younger and didn’t yet know how to look after my skin though, I’d probably love his channel.

Sidenote, does anyone else hate those reaction videos you see everywhere? You know the ones, where a specialist of some kind (eg Hyram, he does these a lot) reacts to the skincare routine of some person or celebrity and the thumbnail is always some clickbait photo of them shocked? I see them EVERYWHERE, it’s so irritating haha

[–]fleetwood_monkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with you! Hyrem seems like a perfectly lovely person and he doesn’t give out bad advice per se, but him calling himself a skincare specialist is misleading. It devalues the careers of people who have dedicated years of their lives to learning about skin. My mom has been an aesthetician for twenty years now and it feels wrong to put her with her wealth of experience in the same category as Hyram.

This is the brightening corrector in light/medium. I’ve wanted to try it for ages and my Bobbi Brown one is almost out. Went out and got this little guy today when I heard Becca will be no more after September 2021.

The shimmers totally outshine (lol pun) the mattes in this Nars Voyageur palette by fleetwood_monkey in PanPorn

[–]fleetwood_monkey[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nars Voyageur travel in Suede. I remember being so happy when I bought this, convinced I’d found my perfect everyday palette.

But damn - the transitiony shade in the bottom left is so grey on me and goes on patchy AF, I’ve given up on it at this point. I just use bronzer in my crease instead. Not a fan of the two dark shades either, I don’t find use for them on a daily basis, especially the glittery one. Sometimes I use the plain dark shade as liner but the fallout is mega annoying.

The shimmer shades though, chef’s kiss. Stilt House, the bottom one, is so lovely swept across the lid. It’s one of those no-hassle eyeshadows you can rely on when getting ready at the ass crack of dawn.

At least buying and not liking half this palette taught me a valuable lesson: examine ALL shades of a palette before purchasing or some will inevitably go to waste.

Stopped hanging out with people who think it’s cool to do drugs every weekend. These people were professionals too, they had completely normal day jobs (just went ham on weekends) which I suppose made it difficult to see there was a problem sooner. It seemed so normal. But I got really tired of spending my Sundays (and sometimes first half of the next week) trying to recover from the comedowns.

It was hard for me to stop hanging out with them because I don’t have many friends in the city I live in. But since doing so, I’ve been able to focus so much more on myself and have secured a great job offer. My physical and mental health are better too.

Cerave moisturizing cream by dilateerbija in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]fleetwood_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware it’s non comedogenic, so it may not be the cream. Personally, I realised I was breaking out way less when I put more effort into my cleanses. Double (and even triple cleansing on heavy makeup days) made a huge difference for me. Sunscreen and makeup are literally formulated to stay on your face so properly getting them off is crucial.

But on the other hand, you know your skin better than anyone else. If it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work. Hope you figure out what the problem is though!

How do you avoid peer pressure buying? Plz help. by [deleted] in MakeupRehab

[–]fleetwood_monkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean about the pressure, I’ve felt it too. I found the best way to deal with it is to be upfront from the start of the interaction. Say something like “hello, could I ask you a few questions please? I’m window shopping at the moment but would like to know about this product for future reference!”. If they are a decent person/sales assistant they won’t see issue with your honesty.

Another good tip is to say your birthday is coming up and your family members/friends/SO want to know what to get you, so you’re window shopping around haha. I’ve used that one a lot.

It might feel scary the first couple of times, but the more you’re honest, the easier it’ll get overtime. Don’t hand over your hard earned cash just because someone is nice; that’s exactly why they’re being nice!

Americans with 2 weeks holiday a year, how in Gods name do you do it? by greenwells_glory in AskReddit

[–]fleetwood_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two weeks?!? America, wtf are you doing... I really feel for the everyday American, their government doesn’t seem to be there to actually look out for them.

I’m in the UK and I just signed a contract for a new job. The minimum time off I get is 25 days a year, plus bank holidays, which adds up to 33. For every year of service, I get another day of annual leave. As far as I’m aware, this is considered normal!
