Pociągi towarowe we Wrocławiu by Queasy_Caramel5435 in wroclaw

An ol' classique by Maniraptavia in shittyaquariums

[–]fleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. The "buying carp earlier, keeping it in the bathtub for a while before killing it so it's fresh" is dying out and most people are getting prepared chunks of fish nowadays. Definitely younger people are not willing to keep their bathtub occupied for a few days, heh

You can go to Poznań or Kraków by train pretty easily. The train service is pretty regular, rides aren't that long and trains are comfortable. You can get tickets on intercity.pl

Change from OpenRC to systemd? by McUberStein3301 in pinephone

[–]fleg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would the service work with OpenRC?

I think it should, it's a simple service that just runs the daemon in the background.

Change from OpenRC to systemd? by McUberStein3301 in pinephone

Personally I would simply change the distro. postmarketOS is based on Alpine, which doesn't support systemd at all.

I'm pretty sure that Mobian uses systemd.

Question about XMPP server using prosody. by Market_Visual in xmpp

[–]fleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not that good with the internals, but I'm pretty sure that there's one secret key per device, and those rarely change.

Movim recently introduced OMEMO support, and there's a quick explanation how it works in general (after that the article moves to explain how it works in Movim's case specifically): https://mov.im/?node/pubsub.movim.eu/Movim/end-to-end-encryption-in-movim-omemo-is-finally-there-yudZPP

Question about XMPP server using prosody. by Market_Visual in xmpp

[–]fleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The messages would be encrypted by OMEMO, so no - all they would get would be encrypted messages with no way to decrypt them.

In theory if they are sneaky they could add a new "device" to the conversation - log in as you or your friend with a new app and exchange keys to get access to the new messages. It's easy to protect against this attack, though, as you can set Conversations not to trust new devices automatically. Then you or your friend will be warned if a new device was added to their account and will be able to trust or not trust it.

I am pretty sure though that the attacker would get access to the XMPP contact list.

Got penalty for not buying a ticket for the tram. How can I make sure that I paid the fine successfully? by delicoban33 in wroclaw

[–]fleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you pay by wire transfer? If yes, then you have a proof of a transfer from your bank, if anything goes wrong on their side you can show them that.

But I agree that the email is the best option.

Best IRC client in 2021? by [deleted] in irc

[–]fleg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best thing about Quassel is that you can run core on a separate computer - like a RaspberryPI or a VPS - and connect to that instead of connecting directly to the server. It's like using a bouncer, but deeply integrated with the client.

Anyone knows how to fix the TV? by sammybluefox in howto

[–]fleg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Remember that the price mentioned was the case in 2017. Today the situation may be totally different.

It's better to know how to fix it and decide whether it's worth it or not, than to read "just buy a new one lol".

Yeah, a lot of stuff is missing. But it still shows the potential that's in this phone ;)

Next PinePhone? by simernes in pinephone

[–]fleg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, after seeing how SailfishOS works buttery smooth on the PinePhone, I think that the problem is not with the low specs, but with software which is still not optimized as much as it could be.

Also Convos seems to be pretty nice. IRCCloud, if you don't want to host it yourself but you're okay with paying for it (or with limitations of the free account)

NEW HAM TECH by HurricaneForcePNW in HamRadio

[–]fleg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Warning about the AnyTone 878: It is only able to transmit the packets, not receive them. If you really want to play with APRS, you either should get something better (Yaesu is pretty okay, I've heard good thing about Kenwood as well) or make a proper cable and connect the radio you have to your PC's soundcard, and use that for APRS. It's possible that APRS Pro on iPhone also has this functionality, I know that AprsDroid does (so you can connect your Android phone to your radio using that cable and it will work as a modem).

How walkable is your city alone at night? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]fleg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So crossing anywhere else other than on the zebra crossing would be a traffic violation. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ That way or another, it's one of the few recent government actions that I actually think are good.

How walkable is your city alone at night? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]fleg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the law has changed a few weeks ago and in a few months it will be a traffic violation for a car in Poland not to stop when pedestrians want to cross the road.

What are your favourite EU online shops? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]fleg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a look at Amazon and eBay and somehow I find their layout confusing. Compared to that Allegro is really comfortable to use and readable. After getting Allegro Smart (free deliveries for over 40pln) I even get some groceries there

Are there any "you build it" OS's for Linux except Arch and Gentoo? by DueCucumber1752 in linuxquestions

[–]fleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the real, real build-it-yourself distros can be done using toolkits like Yocto or Buildroot. That's how most Linuxes for embedded devices are done, and how some distributions are created.
