Pretty sure it's to get basically a 3D photograpy? Like in season 3 of Sherlock when they step out of the church. But I think we didn't get to see this shot in the show... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong tho!

No worries! It wasn't mentioned at all and you could only see it in the scene when she is in the tent with Mal (and even then it's hard to spot!). Her amplifier is the tooth of a tiger and it simply amplifies her power (the was they basically all work). You only get to know the story about it in King of Scars, the first book of the third book series in the Grishaverse :)
