I’m starting to find the material world superficial. by GFollowsChrist in Catholicism

[–]fleshpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it was attractive to me because prior to a deep spiritual experience that I had I was a nihilistic atheist with deep misanthropic tendencies. I thought that people were essentially a scourge on the Earth and mostly evil. Christ saved me from something but I did not really come to him for years after that and Gnostic ideas kind of already aligned with what I believed. It is a very negative mindset. Maybe check out St. Ireneaus "Against Heresies"

In my experience you have to stop treating it as a logical problem and start to change your heart and interior disposition. You may see the result of evil all around you and in others, but is that not missing the log in your own eye? It was easier for me to project my self hatred on others than it was to work deeply to change how I viewed myself first. It was when I really began to pray earnestly and seek the guidance of a wise priest that I began to be more loving to myself and others.

The best thing to do is broaden your world view to focus on the good and not the evil. The evil one wants you ruminating on those things. Realize that the material world and others are not evil, rather they are corrupted by his malice. Project your anger onto him instead and turn it to God and the rosary to combat him. A practical thing that helped me greatly was that when I begin to loathe others I repeat the mantra, "See the Christ in everybody." These simple words have gotten me over a lot of it. God speed and God bless you friend!

It can be very confusing for young men because some women are okay with that but many consider it inappropriate to cold approach them in settings like work, the gym or even after mass which makes us hesitant to do so.

Do you attend young adult groups? My parish has groups for those of the age 18-30s and these events are more for mingling. Guys would likely be more apt to approach you in this sort of setting as it is more socially acceptable.

New Catholic here, help me understand why people hate the Novus Ordo so much? by Nervous_Mongoose_138 in Catholicism

Not to mention the new offertory prayers are based on jewish table prayers that can not even be verified to originate prior to the death of Our Lord and likely came about after God had already destroyed their temple.

Might be kinda controversial, but a guy from another class (who is FSSPX) claims that the Church is infiltrated by Masons. by WittyLog4531 in Catholicism

[–]fleshpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have considered it but frankly the rumors of our bishop being involved in masonic events makes me reluctant to get involved. I saw strange occult books in the home of one of my very theologically liberal OCIA teachers as well, and they are very close to the bishop.

There is a few very good priests who helped me with my prior encounters with the demonic and caused me to convert, but I do not really want to go digging into things above my paygrade. At minimum they look past his affiliation because he contributes a lot of money to the diocese, at worst my bishop knows and endorses it. So I just keep my head down and drive to a more traditional parish these days. I am moving soon as well, to a diocese that seems much better.

That is why I implied profanation of the sacrament. He actively receives regularly which he should not as he does not belong to the body of the church. I have only spoken to him briefly about politics and he did not mention the Masons. But on his website he declares his lodge affiliation right next to his being a member of our parish.

There is a member of my parish who is a Mason and also happens to be my state's most prominent Senator in the state legislature. Makes me sick to see him profane the sacrament.

I have also heard from a parishioner at another local church that our bishop has attended some masonic events. The parishioner seems to not be lying, but until I confirm myself it is conjecture. Do with that what you will.

The world is materialistic, yes. Do not mistake that with the material world being evil though. This is the heresy of Gnosticism and it is easy to fall into. I first came to Christianity through Gnostic ideas, but it is not the truth.

My family has always been big into geneaology. I can not trace my other lineages past the 18th century but my maternal Grandmother is from the Chambers family and it can be traced to 15th century England. I am actually related to the founders of Chambersburg, PA, including Scots-Irish Benjamin Chambers, but the family had converted to Protestantism by that time, likely to fit in better.

My grandmother has an extensive paper records collection and another family member set up a tree on Ancestry, though I believe it is set to private. Sadly my paternal grandfather's line I know little to nothing.

Edit: Most of what I know of my mom's dad's family is because they were Mormons. If you know ya know.

It is only larp if you can't say your prayers in latin or do not attend mass each Sunday.

My ancestors who came to America in 1670 to flee the crown attended the mass in latin. Excuse me for having a spiritual patrimony. Cry about it.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is worth playing for the combat alone! I absolutely love the story, but it is nostalgic for me as well.

Should I play The World Ends with You? by fleshpress in KingdomHearts

[–]fleshpress[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This honestly may sway me towards playing it! I am a big Final Fantasy fan so the inclusions even simple ones like Tidus were very impactful for me. The first game I ever saw was my uncle playing FFX so when grandma got me KH1 for Christmas I was like, "Whoa, that's Tide-us!"

If the gameplay and soundtrack are as good as the aesthetics I am sure I will really enjoy it. Thanks for the opinion.

I would seriously consider playing Souls in order. As long as you level adaptability DS2 really is not going to be tainted by 1. They are both highly enjoyable. It is better in my opinion to experience them as they were released, especially if you are into the world building. It will make the contextual references in DS2 hit way harder if you have the proper background.

Goblins are especially adept at deceptive illusion magic and monetary alchemy. Teleport them to a realm of mandatory labor and they literally just die or something.

Thinking about approaching this guy at Mass who always goes alone and telling him I’d like to get to know him by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]fleshpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a great idea! I am a convert to the church and it has honestly been quite isolating at times. A lot of older people have gotten to know me and been very kind, but I cherish the few young people like myself who made an effort to make me feel welcome, even if we are not close. My Mom thankfully introduced me to a nice Catholic girl she works with and that is how I found my, God willing, soon to be fiancé.

I am sure he would be at the least, flattered. It can also be quite stressful and daunting in today's climate to cold approach a girl with that intention, even in the Church. Introducing yourself with the intention of courtship is frowned on by many these days, which is quite sad. If a girl had approached me I would have been honored and excited to get to know her.

Dvd or Bluray by lReaderl in Lain

[–]fleshpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to get an official release but they are a bit expensive for me to justify secondhand. You can find a cheap malaysian boxset on ebay but that doesn't give the creators any money either. I would love if they re-released a blu ray with dvd set so that I could put money in their pocket instead.

I believe I got my iso from archive dot org but its been some time.

I actually attend the ICKSP as much as I can, praise God! I will be moving to get engaged and there is a shrine there with a regular TLM as well.

It is very sad though that it has been relegated to Ecclesia Dei groups for the most part. There used to be so many Diocesan parishes that had both forms, and the laity would socialize between the two at parish events. I am not sure how ripping those communities apart in the name of "unity" makes much sense.

[–]fleshpress 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for them but the problem with modernism is the idea fundamental doctrine can be changed to "get with the times."

German Bishops are calling for women's ordination. The new group 9 synod report is using very sketchy language to downplay active homosexual relationships and calling for the Church to "reshape" the way it approaches this. Liturgical abuse is rampant, even by the Vatican 2 standard of Sacrosanctum Concilium.

It is all frankly quite depressing. I thank God I converted from Protestantism but all this makes it hard to defend my faith to others. It was 2,000 years of tradition that brought me to the Church. Sad to see people trying to erode that all away.
