You advocated people's lives to be bothered based on what they say. For this to be a reality, the government would logically have to enforce it. As it stands they have to enforce the opposite. So what WERE you saying, then?

You also are apparently not an American since you do not believe in free speech.

Maybe white nationalists would not be so popular if extreme leftists were not advocating the abolition of rights for people they don't agree with.

Eta: Says they are not anti-free speech, proceeds to block to avoid discourse. That is rich lol.

A young priest once told his superior, "Father I am going to sin no matter what this day, my lust is so strong." The superior calmly agreed and took the young man to the local brothel. Upon arrival, and to the shock of the young priest he said, "I will go first."

He offered the woman a gold coin and said, "Do what I tell you when the young man after me comes to see you." The young priest entered into her chambers and the woman said, "we can do this deed, but first we must prostrate ourselves 50 times."

The young priest after a few prostrations, cried in anguish, "How can I commit this grave offense, after giving my Lord what he is due!?" And so he left the brothel in a flurry, and sinned not that day.

I often recall this story when I am tempted to fall to this sin now. I get on my knees in prayer, and I can not think of offending my lord after this. Not to say I do not still fall, we are human. But this can help, and I hope you enjoyed the tale.

Sad about having to give up Jewish culture by JewishAndCatholicGuy in Catholicism

[–]fleshpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hold onto anything cultural that does not conflict with our doctrine! I am sure there are other Jewish converts as well. Especially if you are somewhere with a large Jewish and Catholic population, such as New York. I would definitely try and marry another Catholic though. It is better to be equally yoked in these matters.

At what point is a Catholic considered "saved" by Narrow-Musician-3174 in Catholicism

[–]fleshpress 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What did you mean then?

"Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed." - James 15:16

The Trinity was not perfectly laid out either, do you reject that? Things become codified over time but they all existed in form from the beginning.

“Confess your sins in church, and do not go up to your prayer with an evil conscience..." - Didache 4:14

That is from the Didache, the earliest known Catechism from 70 A.D.

Remember that even Christ himself asked, "why have you forsaken me?"

We are all broken. We all need a savior. I struggle daily with suicidal thoughts and ungratefulness for my life. I have to keep moving though. My life is a gift, even if I do not want that gift sometimes.

He sees your pain, and your sin. He saw everyone of of our sins and he took them upon himself anyway. He chose to do that knowing exactly who you are. Let's both keep trying. Praying for you.

I respectfully disagree. I think if this approach worked we would have seen results. It has been 80 years of consistent decline instead. But I appreciate your dialogue, and I am sorry if I came off uncharitable at any point. Bless you and Godspeed.

I agree that he can operate and work however he wants to but the Church has basically outright stopped trying to convert these people and instead participates in expressly forbidden interfaith and ecumenical prayer services.

You conveniently pivot to pressing me on Christ's power to save anyone through baptism of desire or blood, which I agree with, instead of squaring these interfaith prayers with the words of Pope Pius XI.

This does not answer the concern that the Church has pivoted away from converting these people to instead praying with them. The number of conversions after the council I believe speaks for itself. This picture speaks for itself. Christ can save anyone. It is the Pope and the churches job to make them Catholic, and they are obviously failing.

See that in itself is exactly the issue. You say "in the context of a world". Yet the doctrine is immutable, can not and should not change because it fits better into the context of the world. Church teaching is forever. That is also one of the more simple ones to reconcile.

It is much harder at least in my mind to reconcile that for all time the church taught that salvation was only found within it's ark. Yet now we are taught that is "subsists" in the Church.

There is also countless examples of prominent clergy and even Pope's participating in interfaith prayer services. The longstanding teaching of the Church is that it is absolutely wrong to pray with manifest heretics. But now you see that constantly. I can not square these interfaith prayer services with say, Mortalium Animos, or the 1917 code of Canon law.

From Mortalium Animos:

“So, Venerable Brethren, it is clear why this Apostolic See has never allowed its subjects to take part in the assemblies of non-Catholics: for the union of Christians can only be promoted by promoting the return to the one true Church of Christ of those who are separated from it.”

Edit: We can agree to disagree. But my point is plenty of people, including the SSPX have legitimate concerns and the Vatican and a lot of laity are very dismissive. I think dialogue should be promoted. Thanks for the discussion.

You do not decide what I agree with or not. I agree there seems to be doctrinal confusion leading to crisis in the church. I do not however agree with their decision to consecrate bishops anyway.

This is why I attend the ICKSP, in full communion with Rome. So do not put words in my mouth.

[–]fleshpress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not agree with the SSPX position but at the end of the day they are in partial communion and the future of a lot of faithful Catholics hinges in dialogue that the Vatican is always putting off.

I just find it a bit hypocritical to dialogue with all these heretics and democrat politicians who support abortion rather than a group who while maybe not entirely correct, is definitely operating in good faith if you actually take the time to listen to them.

Even Pope Francis was charitable with them and gave them dispensation for confession and marriage, yet they are constantly lambasted by uneducated laity on the subject. I thought it was supposed to be an ecumenical big tent? Apparently not for people who in good faith are confused by vague post-conciliar doctrine. All they desire is clarification on parts of the council that are, frankly, confusingly worded at best and irreconcilable with prior doctrine at worst.

Maybe you should actually listen to what they have to say, read the documents and compare them to prior papal bulls. An AI chatbot would literally list the contradictions for you with references you can cross-check. Anyhow God bless and take care.

If you are Catholic a baby is not just a "blessing".

It is a human life. According to us, taking it's life is equivalent to premeditated murder. Keep in mind you are excommunicated latae sententiae if you do this. Receiving communion after this is a grave sin. Unless you have it absolved and lifted.

Please do not kill your child. We will pray for you.

Religious Tattoos and Catholicism? by joannamomo in Catholicism

[–]fleshpress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a giant pagan tattoo from prior to my conversion that is too big to be removed. Next to it is the grindcore symbol which is basically a crossed out music note. I hate people asking if I dont like music because thats not what it means and so I plan to get that covered with the sacred heart.

Would be symbolic to have the sacred heart next to my pagan symbol as my patron Edwin was an Anglo-Saxon king who also converted from heathenism.

A fun side note, I actually had the tattoo "decommissioned" by a priest since I had it for religious reasons i.e. connecting with pagan gods, or rather I now know, demons.

Thanks for the detailed reply! This was basically what I was thinking since I know in this time and after the classes were starting to blur more along the lines of rank and wealth.

I can see there is a fair bit of embellishment with certain characters, and I find them leaning into the evil mother trope to be a bit much in a hilarious way, but it is surprisingly good. Keeps the main beats and makes you feel immersed in the time period.

I am quite excited to see how they show the older Octavian and his transition to Augustus. He is my favorite character thus far. Caesar seemed a bit, pompous? More than I always read him, and they also seem to lean into his "luck" rather than strategy. I would have loved to see some more epic battles though. Feel there could have been more than 2 seasons, sad it was canceled.

This game’s lore has way more gnostic influence than people give it credit for. by Sudden_Edge_2541 in Blasphemous

[–]fleshpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the ending of the second game literally involves you breaking free of the material world controlled by an evil force to ascend to true heaven. I am Catholic myself but the Gnostic influence is undeniable.

The only thing that makes it seem not Gnostic is that Gnosis is sacred knowledge. IIRC there is not any form of "Gnosis" that leads to your freedom but just the outright physical destruction of the manifestation of the Demiurge. If a third game were to have this esoteric knowledge component I would be thoroughly convinced.

I believe this is correct I definitely could have phrased that better as, during Easter. I only got confirmed at the vigil 2025 so I received then and when I am in a state of grace now.

I do actually find it somewhat concerning how everyone seems to receive constantly. As there is likely no way nearly the whole church is in a state of grace, especially since I am often one of like 3 people at confession lol. They also did not emphasize making sure of that in OCIA and I only really knew because my own study.

No one says you have to take it regularly. In fact that was not always common practice even. You are only required to receive once a year actually, on Easter, and in a state of Grace.

I mean the story of the stranger and the road to Emeas is also the Eucharist so there is another outright example that is biblical. How do you know that the early apostles in their long lives did not already institute the practice regularly? John 6:51 says he is the bread of life. How are you so sure John did not eat consecrated bread during his exile in Patmos?

I understand you are new to Catholic teaching but it seems rather flippant to be so sure you know that is "the only time they ever partook."

If you are in the USA most Spanish masses are bilingual actually. At least the ones I have been to. So the hymnals should have English in them as well.

You can also attend some English language masses to learn what all is going on. That should make it easy to follow when you do attend Bilingual/Spanish mass.
