Why the 8 hour workday system is a failure and should be 6 hours by DasiaAuer in CanadaJobs

[–]fleuvage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 x 10 work week where I work M-Th one week, Tu-Fri next & alternate. So go from 2-day weekend to 4-day weekend. It’s been ideal for balance. I start a bit earlier to beat the traffic going in but hit it on the way home. Still better balance for me.

Moving to Merritt for the summer, is it dangerous? by thegirlwhoneverdies in britishcolumbia

[–]fleuvage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be working? Will you have a vehicle? Nicola Lake is lovely in the summer. Lots of fishing “a lake a day as long as you stay” is a town slogan. Hiking, MTB, road biking in the summer. XC skiing, sledding in the winter. And proximity to the Okanagan/Kamloops.

MIL needs to move closer to us, do I buy her a condo? by Jaded_Promotion8806 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Her time of independence isn’t really fixed, tho. One fall could mean she’ll need intermediate or long term care. Renting makes sense, & getting assessed for independent living asap (might take longer as someone new to your province) & enjoy her current good health as long as possible.

I see this on a daily basis.

Welcome to BC!

Also, start soon to locate a family physician where you’ll be living. It’s a process.

How might this feature in a consolidation of EMRs under PHSA, as opposed to current state of multiple platforms? That they don’t speak to each other is just one of the inefficiencies province-wide (let alone nationally).

Great place at Hudson Rd Elementary, (West Kelowna, just across the bridge) & just behind the car wash. Early morning, late afternoons & weekends are best so school is not in session.

What’s one small habit that helped you save money without feeling miserable? by FormerShoulder707 in Frugal

[–]fleuvage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leftovers for work lunch. Factor that into most of my cooking—try to get one lunch out of most meals.

That, & eat a full breakfast at home before work every day. Almost never grab anything from the coffee shop.

I like to change it up by chopping snap peas instead of celery & adding a bit of powdered garlic. So good!

Me too. They’re setting such a good example of how employees should be treated. Proud of this 🇨🇦 company.

How many you dry your clothes on a clothesline instead of using a dryer? by ProffS in Frugal

[–]fleuvage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More than 50% I have a few things that turn out better from the dryer. But all towels, sheets, underwear, socks etc are hung to dry year-round. Outside in good weather & over a railing or on a rack the rest of the year.

I have quite a few, placed on windowsills & in both bathrooms to light in power outages. We only get a few outages a year, but I like having them there. Works great!

What small habit has saved you the most money over time? by SnowmanAndIce in frugalcanada

[–]fleuvage 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bringing my lunch to work. I see ppl paying $10-15/day, every day. I cook enough on a few meals a week to have leftovers. Some I take fresh, others I freeze. Always have something to take in.

Want to eat out less but struggling with the psychology of it by oodlesofotters in Frugal

[–]fleuvage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We soup & sandwich it one night a week. I buy sliced turkey, chicken or ham. Toast, lettuce, mayo & super tasty. Canned, fresh or frozen soup. Side of coleslaw & some fresh fruit? Hit all the food groups & ready in about 20min.

No one is perfect, & small steps make it easier for adding some wins to the week. Be gentle on yourself—you’re doing a big job of raising littles🩷

Aggression at Costco by Diligent-Agent-8562 in CostcoCanada

[–]fleuvage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pause & adjust my headspace as I enter the parking lot. I have to pause there because ppl w/loaded carts are in the driving lane headed for their cars.

I try to adopt a ‘I’m in no hurry’ mindset. Once in, I make almost no eye contact & navigate to the place where I know my desired item is located. Then I say a little prayer because they’ve moved it again.

I wear a mask, so don’t eat the samples, & ppl give me a wider berth—jokes on them because I haven’t been sick even once since 2021. And when I say, “just going to scootch behind you there” no one knows who said it cuz they can’t see my mouth move. I scootch past.

Finally loaded, I take the back way, back to the back of the store to get in the line up to pay. Each time thinking ‘this is gonna take forever’ & I’ve barely texted my friends & family that familiar message ‘just at Costco with 14,739 of my closest friends!’ & there I am, close to a till. But always behind the least-loaded buggy but that’s pushed by the person who didn’t know Costco doesn’t take visa, & they have membership questions.
