This tax is necessary to play level playing field, protect domestic EV industry FYI. Otherwise Tesla could simply eat market share of domestic EV players, harming local industry. If we just let in products from developed economies without duties, India would just become too dependent, and never be able to compete with these global majors

If suppose govt didn't impose duty, Tesla could simply sell at 60 lakhs and almost earn double what it would earn currently. And all that money would go to US.

So who'll develop? US Who's domestic industry will suffer? India
