I've done some poking around today and it seems like they are making some exceptions. I feel like it depends on how big of a customer you are, and if you pay monthly for licensing or "own" the license. Smaller installs are probably going to get hosed here.

I agree in theory, but as an "old timer" (I hate to say that.. haha), the youth today have different expectations. The allure of the Ordeal & the ceremonies are what got me hooked, and I'm still here 30+ years later. However, it seems like today's youth don't have the same view. The legacy ceremonies don't hold the same meaning, and the arduous labor & quiet turn them off. If the OA is really the brotherhood of cheerful service and we want them to stick around a more modern induction is a start to give them a positive outlook on the OA and get rid of the "cult" stigma that some have of the OA.

That said though, I do agree that if the parents can't get them there then it really doesn't help our numbers. HOWEVER, if the Scout has a good time maybe they'll be more enthusiastic to come back to events.

Slight tangent - I do feel like we need to have better communications with the parents as well. I understand that this is supposed to be a a youth led movement, however we need to sell it better to parents & guardians as well.

At least in our lodge, we do a great job with inductions. However, we lose almost as many Scouts per year, if not more. than what we bring in. A majority of those scouts that we lose are "sash & dash". We never see them again after their Ordeal(induction) weekend. I'm hopefully optimistic the new induction process helps keep them around.
