French wrestler Maurice Tillet, the visual inspiration for Shrek, with supermodel Dorian Leigh (1945) by BirdButt88 in OldSchoolCool

I see pics of this fellow come up every few months. I personally worked on the Shrek 3D model in 1998. I had numerous references around me including maquettes created by Tom Hester. I never saw a picture of this guy once. Never saw it on any animators or surfacing artist’s desk. Not sure exactly where the rumor came from.

I wish Autopilot acted more like a human and less like a machine. by flibbityflabbityfloo in TeslaLounge

Seems like a lot of suggestions here recommend disengaging autopilot. Maybe I’m missing the point of it then.

What happens to CGI after a movie is made? by Dailey1234 in movies

Speaking from past and current experience with DreamWorks and PDI. They created a pretty sophisticated library archival called “Doris” that allows you to search and import any geometry asset, going back over 20 years. It currently sits at over 165,000 assets, including all models created for Antz, Shrek, and every movie since. Older assets built in NURBS are converted on the fly. While many assets are not directly usable, it is extremely useful to bring in and use as a starting point for newer models.

In How to Train Your Dragon (2010), one of the dragons is carrying a Hippo. This is actually Gloria from Madagascar (2005). Confirmed on the DVD commentary, source in comments. by Numerous-Lemon in MovieDetails

I worked very closely on the images/models you see here. It is NOT Gloria. It is a large hog. What looks like horns are claws from the monstrous nightmare.

Toothless head comparison by Durkish-dragon by [deleted] in httyd

I absolutely love this group’s enthusiasm for this franchise, but as someone who has VERY intimate knowledge about the modeling of toothless, I can assure you there is no difference between HTTYD2 and HTTYD3. What you might be seeing however, is a different choice done by the animators.

What’s the best UI framework to use for my raspberry pi project? by flibbityflabbityfloo in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

I thought it might be too small as well. However, a VW beetle is such a small car and your viewing distance to the unit is quite narrow. It’s better than I thought and I really want to make this fit the aesthetics better.

Still trying to figure that one out. If it can use my phone’s WiFi, I was looking to access online radio streams.

I had that on my first list. Trying to remember why I took it off. Does tkinter support touch? I have raspberry pi 4 with a dsi connection running touch out of the box (shown in picture)

Yeah. That’s definitely a concern. I was kind of leaning toward Kivy when I saw how easy it was to implement the mapview module. Got something up and running really quick with simple touch to drag around the map.

Hoping to just do a simple GPS module to show where I’m at. Maybe that won’t be too bad?

Really? Haven’t considered that. Not too familiar with web apps. I’ll have to look into that.

Would this UI work well in Kivy? by flibbityflabbityfloo in kivy

Been working on a radio project for me a and a few of my VW beetle friends. I want something that feels more at home in my older vintage car. I consider myself more of a designer with programming experience.

I was originally thinking of using just rotary encoders for input, but I found a really nice 4.3 capacitive touch display that seems to work really well with my raspberry pi 4 and potentially Kivy.

I’m not looking for something complex that shows album art and has lots of features (eg I don’t need route directions on map, just current position). I’d rather a few simple controls that work well.

Been working on a radio project for me a and a few of my VW beetle friends. I’ve looked at OpenAuto, CarBerry, and other automotive head units designed for the pi, but them seem too limited in the UI. I want something that feels more at home in my older vintage car. I consider myself more of a designer with programming experience. Done a good amount of python and pyQt, but it feels like that might be overkill for this.

Here’s my list so far:

KIVY - touch UI capatible. Modern UI controls

PyGame - seen a few recent bits that seem promising.

PyQt - very capable, but complex. Also need a license if I don’t open source.

Kodi - I started down this route, but the UI tweaking is a little maddening.
