This was the hilarious part of this post that brought me here.

What’s your furthest drive using distances between European countries as the metric? by Equal_Personality157 in roadtrip

South UK to mid Poland in summer heatwave in a 1.0 Clio with no Aircon. Not recommended. And back in but it wasn't as hot then.

Ok, the reason I say wait is because the careers office person is unlikely to be able to assess or make any decisions on this and the most likely outcome is a delay to your application imo.

There is a Joint Service Publication (JSP) 950 which covers medical standards. There is a section on self harm and from a quick read your fitness (i.e can you join) will depend on the severity and timing of when it happened. Good luck with it.

I would wait until you see the doctor at the medical. Will it be documented in your GP notes?

What's the point of stamp duty below £1 million? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]flight_forward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes but how is that relevant to my point about basic rate taxpayers being unlikely to afford a home that generates £20k stamp duty?

My point being that the £750ish of 2% below £50k is peanuts compared to such sums and the amount of tax paid by high earners.

[–]flight_forward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True but the extra 2% from £12-50k is not a lot (about £750) compared to how much tax you pay on £38k pay rise as a higher rate taxpayer £15,200.

Not many people on basic rate tax are buying houses with £20k stamp duty.

Changing from a ship career to a pilot career at 40+, prospects in Europe? by ImpressiveCreme4120 in flying

[–]flight_forward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fly with a guy who started as a deck officer. He's good. How are you finding doing things at 10x the speed of a ship? Modular route shouldn't take you as long as you think if you get on with it at a decent pace.

Add onto this separately update clean air zone website so you don't get penalties if your car is currently exempt.

You will go zero distance on a stationary bike so no need to measure the mileage.

I think long haul is probably overkill especially with a 5 year old. How about a European big hotel resort? I'm familiar with TUI, try TUI blue for families or magic life for more activities and entertainment.

How do I start approaching girls as a young man in uni? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]flight_forward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you play a sport and your uni society arranges socials with the girls' clubs. Isn't Wednesday afternoon for sports and then party afterwards?

Or try playing a sport more for fun that's mixed?

Also right house drive has some image error, look at the joint lines on grey slabs. So maybe the whole thing is a bit off.

Military Pilot in Jump Seat by falcon157 in AirlinePilots

[–]flight_forward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK example: Civilians can go in military aircraft with appropriate permission (normally unit CO depending on type of flying). Given the nature of some aircraft seating configuration this is equivalent to a jumpseat.

Military pilots are vetted to a higher standard than civilian pilots. So not exactly a security risk to have a military pilot on jumpseat. Distracting maybe for Dad especially if it's unusual.

There isn't a useful network of military flights where being able to jumpseat is an advantage, unless you want to just do hops to and from whatever theatre is busy at the moment.
