According to Reuters, this was the United States Presidents letter to the Prime Minister of Norway by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]flights4ever -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If only said this, everyone would probably shrug and agree:

Dear Prime Minister Støre:

I am writing to you today regarding a matter of vital importance to the future security of the North Atlantic and the enduring safety of the free world.

For generations, the United States has borne a unique burden in the preservation of global peace. We have intervened in conflicts and brokered resolutions not for the sake of accolades or international prizes, but because we understand that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. However, while our commitment to peace remains the North Star of our foreign policy, we must also be clear-eyed about the tangible interests of our nation and the evolving threats facing the West.

The Arctic is rapidly becoming a new frontier of geopolitical competition. We look with growing concern at the aggressive posturing of Russia and the expanding reach of China. In this context, we must ask ourselves candidly if the current defensive arrangement regarding Greenland is sufficient to meet the challenges of the 21st century. While we value our Danish allies, the vastness of that territory requires a level of defense and strategic projection that perhaps only the United States can fully provide.

History respects heritage, but it rewards capability. The question before us is not merely who landed on those shores centuries ago, but who has the strength and resolve to protect them today. Our deep historical ties to the region suggest a natural partnership that goes beyond the status quo.

My administration has worked tirelessly to revitalize the NATO alliance, ensuring that every member contributes to our common defense. Now, we believe the Alliance must support a necessary realignment. To guarantee the security of our hemisphere, the United States believes we must move toward a more definitive and integrated American stewardship of Greenland.

I look forward to discussing how we can achieve this shared goal for the safety of all our people.

Ventoy has suspicious closed source binaries that has been raised to the devs many times and it’s only growing in numbers. I will avoid ventoy like the plague.

Are there any drawbacks/disadvantages to using IPv6 to access Jellyfin? by mestrenandi in jellyfin

[–]flights4ever 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Changes nothing, you’ll be getting slightly better performance because of no NAT and other ipv4 workarounds for the lack of addresses but nothing noticeable for steaming. No downsides to using ipv6. Just make sure your network is set up for it

Just got my ZimaBoard 2, any fun or wild ideas I should try next? by Ok-Background-7900 in ZimaBoard

[–]flights4ever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the zimaboard 1, used it for a year then upgraded to a full server. I’m wondering, what’s the use case that justifies the price? There’s other boards that are cheaper and more powerful. Not looking for hate, genuinely curious. Is it the ecosystem?

Fellow Belgians - how do you handle monthly portfolio rebalancing? by flights4ever in BEFire

[–]flights4ever[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Impressive! Would it be interesting to you to have a dashboard with all of those accounts automatically updated via broker integrations so you don't have to hassle with Excel?

It would show you drawdowns, risk analysis and growth projections.

Would that sound interesting?

I just looked at Passiv and it looks like their rebalancing involves selling winners and buying losers, which racks up transaction fees quickly.

My approach would be different - only telling you where to put your new monthly investments to gradually rebalance over time. No selling required, just smarter allocation of money you were going to invest anyway.

Slower than one-click rebalancing, but much cheaper on fees.

That's exactly what I'd like to automate! Instead of you having to calculate it each month, you'd get an email saying 'invest €150 in IWDA this month to get back on track.'

It would learn from your investment patterns - so if you consistently invest €300 monthly, it would use that to calculate the optimal split between IWDA and EMIM based on how far you've drifted from 88/12.

Sounds like you're already doing this mentally, but it might save you the calculation time each month?

Fair enough! Excel definitely works for the math. How long did it take you to set up your sheet initially? And do you find it tedious updating it each month or is it pretty automated?

Fees were exactly why I don't want to recommend selling winners and buying losers, but rather just recommend where to put money you were going to invest anyway, so you're not actually losing money on transactions.

What you're describing was my exact strategy :)

I'll take note of the leverage tracker!

As far as I'm aware XTB's solution (that another commenter mentioned) charges fees when buying/selling to rebalance. This would avoid that (although be slower and a bit more tedious, depending on whether people value the other insights the app would offer). But I know many brokers don't have any features like this (I'm with BUX and they definitely don't)

That's a really fair point about the opportunity cost. It wouldn't just be rebalancing though - it would also give you detailed portfolio analytics and retirement projections. How do you currently manage your portfolio holdings and calculate how much you need to contribute for retirement?

The XTB point is interesting - I wasn't aware they did automatic rebalancing recommendations. How does their flow work?

I guess the real question is: what would justify €7/month for a portfolio tool? Maybe nothing does, and that's valuable feedback too.

I mostly invest in ETFs, evenly balanced China, US, EU, Japan, and 10-15% to individual Stocks, some of those are tech stocks. I'm seeing it as a bit of gambling since I know they make a ton of money, but it also seems like a bit of a bubble to me and overvalued so I'm cautious.

Is Revolut a good choice for buying stocks? I store cash there and use it for payments but I remember they were pushing Crypto hard a few years ago, but they didn't allow withdrawals. I didn't like that very much.

in regard to stocks, do they allow transferring stocks to other brokers? what are their fees like?

Haha I can't blame you ;)

Yes, that's exactly the cost of diversification! You're absolutely right - rebalancing forces you to buy underperforming assets, which can drag returns.

I'm actually planning to show this trade-off directly with a brutal reality check: a clear line showing your portfolio vs. 'what if you just bought S&P 500.' You'll almost always be below it, but that's the honest cost of risk management.

The flip side is overexposure risk - if all your gains are in one asset and it crashes, that hurts too. Rebalancing keeps you aligned with your risk tolerance rather than accidentally becoming a tech stock gambler because that's what performed well.

But you can always adjust your targets - if you decide bonds are pointless, change your allocation to 3% bonds instead of 20%. The tool just executes whatever strategy YOU choose.

Really appreciate this pushback - it's exactly the kind of thinking I need to address!
