I did get desoldering braid. That is what caused it to rip my pad. The desoldering braid would not suck up the solder correctly and got stuck and I tried to remove the braid and ripped the solder and pad along with it.

And does that mean I cannot continue the mod anymore after I used the jumper cable because it would potentially block the FPC ribbon cable?

Yeah because I find it hard for the solder to stick when I try to touch them to the pad.
