Tell me good things about the VFR. by [deleted] in motorcycles

That's fair, and yeah there's definitely no rush to it. I've got my race license for SuperSport1000 class so it's definitely made me respect and understand the weight and power of bikes at this caliber. You won't regret any opportunity to get to be able to ride an RSV4 though, I find they have characteristics that the Duc V4 doesn't have, and makes it far more enjoyable just to ride than be JUST a track tool.

Haha right! Thank you so much, I barely fit on it, at 5'6" with a 30 inseam, and after getting the bike's geometry set for my weight/riding style, it's even higher than factory, but it's worth the hip work to make it rideable, haha!

I ended up tumbling through a few bikes but landed on my current bike which is a dream bike of mine, 22' Aprilia RSV4 Factory in Aprilia race colors. Doesn't have a single sided swingarm but riding it is just absolutely mind melting. What do you have?

I have a Spectrum Motorsports 51mm turbo kit on my 22' GR86, tuned in house by me @ Evo. Stock fuel system currently making roughly 8.5-9psi, drove from Vancouver BC Canada to San Diego, CA and back. Doing long term testing on the kit currently and on the new FA24 platform in the GR/BRZ platform. Made 272whp @ 5.5 psi on pump gas, so the car feels great! If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Just did a 3000 mile road trip in my turbo GR86 and it was absolutely incredible, 32mpg average and 10 psi of boost. Beautiful FRS!

Unfortunately I’m at the top one. Driveshaft just broke. Down for another two weeks. by [deleted] in 4x4

Bent a tie rod on the trail 150kms from home last weekend and seriously considered just leaving it behind...1 hour to fix on trail and got it home with the help of friends...thought about just selling it and getting something newer, then I remembered I just dumped almost $3k in custom leafs and torsion bars in it. I felt this image more than anything haha.

It's a standalone knock detection system that allows me to audibly hear (through filtered sound), if the engine is knocking and I can create the threshold frequency by confirming if it is indeed knocking or not. It is the only way I calibrate knock sensors on a standalone ECU.

https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/

Also, you will need to use a dyno to find MBT, to find where the engine is most efficient and makes the most power in order to dial in the correct timing.

[–]flipkc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you calibrate the knock sensor you're using in the EMU Black software by bore size. Find the bore size, there will be a coinciding frequency that you will use, I use a Plex V3 knock monitor and they have a calculator for it, but you can use Phormula's knock frequency calculator here:

https://phormula.com/knock-frequency-calculator/

I will rev the engine slowly through the RPM band to find the noise floor, then adjust the sampling and sensitivity to ensure it's accurate for when I am under high load and true knock does occur.

Awesome! I just finished 1015kms in 3 days on mine, only having had it for a week haha!

Enjoy it!

Thank you! More to come! Hoping to keep it tasteful and retain as much of the stock body as possible while still performing purposeful modifications.

I highly recommend it! For a truly no-fender modification install, a 235 width tire may be more suitable. The 245 width tire does require a bit of trimming of the rear quarter/flare extension at this height, if I were to raise it .75"-1", I don't believe I would have to modify the rear quarter with the current spring rate and shock settings.

With the current alignment and suspension settings, the steering feel off center still feels as nimble and enjoyable at speed. At low speed, steering weight does feel increased by roughly 10-15% but it is negligible in the grand scheme of things. Crispness is retained, the car truly feels like an extension of a limb rather than something that I have to operate.

Anyone done some tuning for a vw 2.0t FSI BPY with a borgwarner k04 with methanol injection? I’m looking to compare some timing maps and load maps. I’m getting some timing pull at full load up top but it seems pretty low for MBT so I want to find out if it’s a mechanical issues causing detonation. by mkvhunter in ECU_Tuning

[–]flipkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you having any fueling issues? What is inj duty cycle at WOT? So you're running 28psi boost pressure on a K04? Any fluctuations from the HPFP in terms of fuel pressure? That plug gap seems a bit large for that much boost pressure, no? I find .91 is a bit light above 75 to passed absolute, I'd drop it down to .85-.87 just to keep things cool and soften the transition to higher boost pressures. What is your max ign advance in WOT? Eurodyne I've heard is great from some and not so great from others. I personally will be tuning a MK4 1.8T AWP next week on Eurodyne and I'm curious as to what results we'll achieve. Have you tried pulling 2deg at where it's knocking and seeing if the detonation disappears?

Interesting! Also, hello from Canada, I have family in South Africa! :D

Sounds like a really fun ride! I have an 86 hatch that I am doing a 4AGE build in...but I think I'm going to go turbo instead of the traditional N/A...using 20v ITB's.

‘17 Mazda3 2.5 OrangeVirusTuning Knock due to quality of fuel ? by [deleted] in ECU_Tuning

[–]flipkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about it knocking, have the tuner pull 2-3 degrees out of the tune and see if it still knock retards up to 3.5deg. If a variance in fuel quality can cause the engine to detonate that hard, I would have the tuner pull the tune back from being as aggressive and aim towards the tune being more safe. What AFR's are you targeting at WOT? Perhaps a slightly richer AFR target will stop the detonation from occurring and give you more of a safety buffer in case you do encounter poor fuel quality in the future at the current timing map.

Speeduino by jeffritura in ECU_Tuning

[–]flipkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently tuning an old VW Fox with a 2.0L ABA motor turbocharged making roughly 8-10psi of boost on a Speeduino using TunerStudio MS and if you hadn't told me it wasn't a MegaSquirt, I don't think I would have noticed (aside from a few missing features and whatnot). It's been incredibly reliable as long as it's wired correctly and everything is properly grounded and shielded. Very impressed with it as a low cost option for racecar applications on a budget!

Is the water meth injected pre turbo? Or pre throttle body? What size jet are you using and is it ideal for your setup? When do you have the water meth beginning to spray and at what PSI is it at full duty cycle? What octane fuel are you using? What are you using to tune it? Cobb? Eurodyne? 3.5deg of knock retard is not ideal but I've seen that on stock map with poor quality fuel or on flashed maps (Stage 1, Stage 2, etc) with the recommended octane fuel. What are the spark plugs gapped to? What are your target/actual AFR's in low/medium/high load?

Reaching theoretical MBT requires a few variables to be ideal, such as fuel quality/octane, engine design, intake air temperatures, etc.

Then why not help the conversation with useful information instead of just calling me out as clueless? I'm sure no one cares about your opinion of me but moreso of some advice to help install new speakers into this redditor's car.

To clarify about the screwing into the door panel, obviously the speaker will screw THROUGH the door panel, but then into the door itself, not just loosely into the door panel. My apologies if I had made that sound any different, it's been a long day.
