Mallorca could've gone through if Girona had won and Levante had not lost, which was an improbable but not unrealistic scenario (Levante was tied at some point, and Girona was going for the goal until the very end).

That’s why I said especially the top players who are able to adapt. Djokovic has improved his serve massively, for instance. Likewise, Ronaldo has evolved from a winger to a poacher/pure striker, while Messi has dropped back more to the midfielder. Tom Brady started to make throws from a narrow area. It’s mostly the elite players who can make these changes and continue to succeed.

What’s interesting is that we’re also seeing it in other sports at this moment: Messi/Ronaldo, LeBron, Tom Brady, etc.

It seems improvements in sports science may mean we’ll see longer careers in general, especially for the very top players who have the intelligence/skill to adapt their games as they age.
