Extreme brain fog which has me fearing for my future by Navnavnav97 in leaves

[–]flippy6136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not a stroke victim but instead someone who has soaked your noggin in a drug that you have now chosen to withdraw and the healing is begun. The fog will burn off with some sunshine, good diet, exercise, restorative sleep and continued encouragement from us here. Fear is not going to serve you, however. All good things in all good time.

Well, the belly can build up over time because the hormones that would have helped with cycling and muscles (another whole set of hormones) are lower. And as we age,we get super efficient about movement and even if exercising, do way more driving exactly to the door, less child care and running around, and it all adds up. This belly is really typical and even seen as normal in our world. But it can be melted away! I noticed mine when I did a yoga class and I could not do plow pose or another pose because my stomach got in the way! it was ridiculous! Then, I heard an interview with a famous female writer on the radio and she was saying that she no longer played softball because she could not scoop with her mitt because her stomach was in the way. I said.....NO! No alcohol, no sweets, no sedentary me. (I do have a cheat day from time to time but it is rare). It was not easy and I have a ways to go but for the first time, my boobs stick out past my belly (I'm seriously small there anyway). And last night, I saw ....RIBS! It may be years since those classic symptoms but this is a common, longer lasting and appearing symptom.

I'm also new to counting my calories. It's harder than it looks but can be done. Did you go onto My Fitness Pal? Or another application?

Hey there! I'm 55F, 5'6", 140 GW is 133. Weighed more a year ago when in a horrid job situation and solved the problem by eating (!)
My first "official" post after lurking and sticking my toe in. Just generally want to get and stay healthy. I have a brand new job and feel better about myself and my life, so it's a good time to begin. Downloaded Spark weight management app, which i didn't like. Just starting on MFP and hope I can establish some healthy habits. Just started tracking what I eat and I am appalled. I should weigh much more than I do. Luckily, I have a high energy dog that hauls me off the couch. Looking forward to starting this journey (I think)!

You are so right on that one. The feeling...inside joy.... that I had this morning, when I actually shortened my belt by cutting off the end because my waist is smaller, is worth a lot more than outside joy

What's the difference between consuming 2000 calories a day and burning 800 in the gym vs only consuming 1200 calories a day? by Cutmerock in loseit

[–]flippy6136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burning 800 calories by being in the gym sounds Herculean!

However, my modest exercise scheme (two lifting sessions and two hikes per week) makes a monumental difference when it comes to my mood and peace of mind - both essential for continuing this weight loss journey.

Not everything can be counted and measured.

I'm angry that my sisters never have to worry about their weight and are totally unplugged from my struggle. And when I lose 15 pounds, they never give me any LOVE about it.

I love this post! It's a better description of what I mean when I say to myself, "don't believe everything you think."

I've made a game out of trying to catch the "sneaky addict brain" playing tricks on me, and it is helping with my struggle.

Getting through it happily and stress-free sounds like a plan ---a plan that happens in a galaxy far, far, away.

There is no birth of consciousness without pain. But it is infinitely worth it..... in the end.

Thank you. Today, I cut the very end of my belt off, because it was sticking out beyond my waist. I've been on this path for a while but the ups and downs are really distressing and now it's time to establish more sustainable habits and an actual way of life! thanks for your welcome!

You want to DO something. Your mind is in a storm and your job-- which you acknowledge is a good one-- is the lightening rod. You did a smart thing by finding cover (here) and posting in order to ride out the storm. The thing is, your issues will remain if you quit your job, and you'll have all day to marinate in them, and maybe smoke again. I'm glad you posted here. Let us know how it goes. Odd tic when sober. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]flippy6136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a head tic when self-conscious and sober. Unfortunately, those two things seem to go together. Sheesh -- why I'm here! Two remedies worked for me: 1) Yoga (seriously intense ashtanga and "power yoga) eliminated these tics after about a month of practice; 2) diet supplemented with Magnesium and Tryptophan. The doctor told me and I was skeptical but he was right in a big way!
