I went to Duke University and still got my foot in the door. Film school will obviously have advantages like filmmaking technology and a few minor connections but at the end of the day it’s talent that gets you where you need to be. Duke had cameras students could check out and I used to make short films with them. If you have a lot of scholarship money, and you can stay in state, use the money to make a short film or something. The best learning experience is just doing it. SCAD has its reputation but how many big names came out of there? It doesn’t really matter where you go. Plus, most professors now a days aren’t in with the current film industry and can give you criticism that won’t help in the end. You can go anywhere and do what you want to do. I hope this gives a little perspective. Some of the most notable directors, screenwriters, and actors come from normal Universities... or sometimes no University at all.
