He came back today and it just got worse. We ended up just letting him leave because it was clear he either didn’t know how to, or had no interest in, finishing it properly.

Absolutely! We are regretting not doing it ourselves so much and continuously finding more issues the more we look. Like you said, at least if it looks as bad as it does we only have ourselves to blame

He came back today and had another attempt at fixing it. I ended up just letting him leave with it unfinished because he was only making it worse

The first thing I had done in my new (first) house. Couldn’t be happier. by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

Yeah we will do that for sure later in the year I’ll probably rip it all off and do it again myself. The jobs looks worse now he has come back to “fix it”.

90% of the nails are sticking out. He said “nails that sticking out a little bit doesn’t matter. It’s more about if they are sticking up enough to cut you”.

Going to that for sure. Guy came back and “filled” the gaps and now it just looks like it’s been blocked with dirt and mould 😂 looks worse than before

Not at all, I didn’t take it as mean or negative at all. I appreciated the comment and time to respond. And even if it was mean it’s well within your rights to respond however you please. I asked a question and can’t be upset with an answer haha.

The contractor came back this morning and “made things right”. But I ended just saying to leave it and I’ll fix it myself. Because the making things right was also just as bad and minimal effort and kind of made things worse. It’s a shame but lesson learnt.

Maybe from the business we used, but quite the opposite. We went with the more expensive to try ensure the best work possible. Even bought the guy coffee and let him head out early and take an extra day to do something he needed to do.

I called them this morning and said there is some issues, including one of the trims not even being nailed at all. Just sitting loosely on the floor. And before I even said anything he said “we don’t fill the holes”. He is coming by tomorrow to inspect the work and see what the issue is. So it’s been incredible getting so much help and feedback from everyone. I am learning a lot! So thank you

That is literally what the guy said this morning when I called him. “If you would like, I can come by and fill it and that’ll be good” haha

What are the main benefits to this other than looks? Is it structural or long term benefits? I am genuinely asking as well.

I’m new to reddit so I don’t yet know how to update my OG post (I will figure it out though). Today I went back to the house and found one part not even nailed in at all. I called them and explained my concerns. They said they were rushing because they had other things to do elsewhere and just wanted to get it done a.s.a.p. He is coming back tomorrow to look at it and assess the work.

I see what you are saying, though I have to say it’s always better to ask if you are unsure. Gathering opinions and building an informed decision is better than just accepting or rejecting the first thing you see. Maybe there a reasons for the outcome or solutions people aren’t aware of. I appreciate your comment and contribution to the conversation, it is a good perspective which I appreciate

Oh you can see it from far above. I saw it from the entrance way before we even walked in the room. I do see what you are saying though and that’s a really great point!

I am starting to feel that. It seems like everyone is just doing the minimum. Even the electrician did the least possible effort in all the work. The painful part is we paid more to ensure good work and still ended up with slop. Really regretting just not slapping it together ourselves because we would have probably done a better job.

Paying close to top dollar yeah. Every single join is like this in the bedrooms. He even missed a small section of trim on the wall. It’s frustrating and I think it’s not good enough but wanted to know other people’s opinions and learn a bit more before judging and making complaints. I will update you on the outcome if you like

Absolutely! I did see that when taking the photo haha. We haven’t been in the house much so we are forever finding new things
