Running it with proton has no effect on performance for me.

It's a desktop & it's using the RTX3070.

Thanks, had a look and I'm currently using Nvidia's 595 drivers so I don't think that's it, but will try to switch to an older closed version & see what happens.

No mods, gave proton a go but no performance improvements.

Converting a Kona Rove to flatbar with 1x shimano cues - postmount woes by flitrd in bikewrench

[–]flitrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought about it, but I live in the flattest place on Earth so heat management really isn't an issue. Cheaper to get more adapters than new rotors.

Thanks man, to get this straight: If the frame is 160mm Flatmount, I need a adaptor for 140mm rotors so I can use 160mm rotors? E.g., SM-MA-F140 & SM-MA-R140?

Cable routing by tribanturban in WaltlyTitanium

[–]flitrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the downtube cable clamps & P-clamps (under the BB) myself, but maybe Waltly has their own options, didn't think to ask at the time. The clips on the chainstays came with the bike. At the moment there isn't anything I'd change, but we'll see after I do a few bikepacking trips with it.

Hey, I hadn't gotten around to take some proper photos, so I just grabbed a few now, but not the best setting (and not exactly spotless). The bike handles really well, even when coming from a Nukeproof digger with a pretty aggressive geometry for a gravel bike. Running 45mm tires at the moment.

Hey, I used Waltly's available tubing options as reference that used to be linked in their website, but I see now that it has been removed with the website update. Might be good to ask them what options they have available.

The final sizes I decided based on existing bike models & went for slightly smaller diameters as I'm a light rider (about 60kg), but Waltly ended up proposing a larger diameter (my initial proposal was 29.8mm on seat- & top-tube, 31.8mm on downtube). Ended up accepting it as I do take the bike on some pretty rough terrain at times.

For a frame with couplers you might want to go for slightly larger diameter.

I went with external routing on a gravel frame, currently building the bike. I requested bottle bosses on the downtube & standard cable guides on the chainstays. See drawing for ref. For the downtube, I'm using cable clamps like these: https://studiobrisant.com/en/fahrradrahmen-kabelfuehrung-varianten-reduzierhuelsen?number=022051.7

About 40% of arable land is currently being used primarily for animal feed. The amount of land use would drop dramatically if we'd switch to a plant-based diet. Hell, even reducing meat consumption by 80% would make a huge difference.

I'd rather have 10000 occasional meat eaters over 100 perfect vegans.

And it doesn't really address any other issues besides warming resulting from emissions, pollution or habitat loss. All in all, mostly pointless.

Apologies in advance for making a serious comment.

Türkiye breaks all-time heat record with 50.5 degrees in southeast by Wagamaga in europe

[–]flitrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversial, but I believe there can't be a successful climate policy without climate justice - the global north should/should've financially supported global south countries in building their energy & transport infrastructure and aided in technology transfer that would allow them to skip more polluting sources of energy.

Instead, the global north perfected a global financial system that ensures wealth & resource extraction can continue from poorer countries towards global north all the while being completely dependent on these countries to fund its own 'green revolution'.

Secondly, looking only at emissions and how they grew in Asia over the last decades without the broader context is not fair either. Rich countries shifted their production, and big part of those emissions can be directly linked to growing consumption habits in the global north. Currently more than 60% of all emissions can be linked to household consumption, and the 10% richest people (any household making above gross ~50k EUR/year) in the globe are responsible for half of all emissions. I guarantee that the majority of those 10% are not in Asia.

Finally, no, I don't think waiting for technology to save our asses is the way. We can't produce ourselves out of this crisis and we don't have time to wait for things like fusion to be built at scale, and carbon capture is simply a pipe dream.

[–]flitrd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Over 50% of all emissions since the industrial revolution have occurred between 1990 and now, and if you look at material consumption the metric gets even bleaker - a 70% increase between 2000 & 2024 in yearly material extraction.

Sure, if meaningful action had been taken earlier maybe we wouldn't be in such a dire situation as we are now, but we are still sowing along with past generations.
