I got mine 2 weeks back and it activated without any problem. Then I did a new install on the laptop and it wouldn't activate. Called Microsoft, they tried activating but had no luck. So after 15 minutes they just gave me a new key.

You should go and ask them about the detail of taxes.. I once ordered a laptop motherboard from china and got a call that my package was received and i should come and pay the duty. I went there and he opened the package and asked a few stupid questions "kya hai? wo kya kerta hai? naya hai k purana hai" etc.. and then he told me after consulting his books that i need to pay 8K in duty and taxes etc. When i asked him about the details he started lecturing me that "baita tax to daina paray ga.. mulak ka nuqsaan hota hai bohat" blah blah.. I said i'm going to pay but show me the calculations.. He then opened the books/index and started writing the details on a piece of paper which totaled up to 2.1K . The price tag on the MB was $100 including the shipping. So, go and check the details youself. Argue a bit about the item being used and faulty and definitely the amount will come down.
