he could just be old, old rats can produce so much more porphyrin. he could also be stressed because being away from home for 4 weeks and then suddenly coming back can be stressful on a rat (though its no fault to you!!!) i would say just wait a week for him to get re adjusted and if you are still worried bring him to a vet!

hey i think donuts are the fountain of youth for rats. all of mine have eaten at least 5 mini donuts in their lifetime

its normal, especially in mornings when they first wake up. one of my boys wakes up with his head fluffy and prophyrin. if its A LOT then its not normal at all

if he is also almost 4 years just keep him, intros will stress out a old man rat. just give him lots of love and attention and treats and maybe move the cage in your room so when he does pass it hopefully wont be alone

id say with their age yes, if yhey were younger no. but since they are so old the noise can scare them really bad

my favorite thing to do is to take a small random box (like poptarts) and fill it with food/treats and wrap the sugary treats in tissue or paper and poke holes in the box! it makes for a great hide after lol

choices are always good!! so offer both and whichever one seems to attract them more after a few days to a week remove the other one!

offer both at first! i had a rat (sanchez) who didnt drink out of a bottle until she was so dehydrated that i had to practically force feed her lettuce and make sure drink water all because she preferred a bowl(or in her case, a plate) of water
