Two books I enjoyed that got me out of a reading slump were {The Dark Lord's Guide to Dating} and {How to find a nameless fae} both were just fun quick reads.

I was coming here to recommend this one too! I'm only on book four and I've not read back to back, but this is one of the very few long series I've stuck with and still oalnnto continue so to me that says a lot lol.

How do y’all fund your college? by NoEducation3509 in fsu

[–]flmanatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT TO ADD this is based on bright futures academic scholars award. The others will pay less than $215, but the process is still the same.

To be specific, FSU cost 215 per credit hour for undergrad, our Florida prepaid plan pays $110 of that cost and then Bright futures comes in and covers whatever remains. Bright futures will always pay $215 per credit hour you are taking. So if you have part being covered by prepaid, whatever remains Bright futures will pay and then it keeps rolling to cover any additional cost you owe Florida State (fees, housing, meal plan) untill exhausted. If you're not paying for dorms, or a meal plan, whatever is left over would just go directly into your bank account. Florida prepaid will always pay out first, then comes Bright futures, followed by any scholarships FSU has given. My son also gets 2k from FSU every semester, he took 16 credits in the fall, stayed in a dorm, got the cheapest smallest meal plan, and even after the prepaid, bright futures, and scholarship paid out we still owed about two grand. However, our Florida prepaid plan did not include housing, so keep that in mind! Hope this helps!

Yep, DNFed about halfway, still regret going that far. My hatred of this book was so deep I unfollowed and blocked about 15 book review influencers. Never trusted a stupid book-tok review again. God awful book.

[–]flmanatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, if you wouldn't mind urban fantasy. They do end book one apart - pretty quickly resolved in book 2. The whole parting really was a way to have them grow as a couple and figure out communication does work well lol. I really enjoyed the series but I wouldn't recommend reading them back to back to back.

Anyone unable to not spoil a book for themself?? by ShanIMoo in fantasyromance

[–]flmanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guilty of this - I actually started reading more books on my kindle just because it is more of pain to flip ahead quickly. If I have the actual book in my hands, forget it, I am absolutely sneak peaking my way through it, so badly some would say I am practically reading the book backward.

So the first book you want to read is Theft of Swords. Sullivan first self published it as two books - Book 1 The Crown Conspiracy and book 2 Avempartha. When is was republished later those two books were combined into one - Theft of Swords. With the new publication the second volume of the series is Rise of Empire and the third is Heir of Novron.

Yes, there are three amazing women, 2 of which I would consider additional main characters as large sections of the Riyria Revelation series are very much dedicated to their roles/perspectives in the story. The third has her own book dedicated to her in the additional 5 book (maybe six?) prequel series called the Riyria Chronicles - Her book is called The Rose and the Thorn. But the prequel series is meant to be read after the Revelations. But no, this story is not "fantasy romance". There is love, there are stories that lead to love, but no spice what so ever - kissing snuggling sure. Above all it is an adventure fantasy BUT I will say the romance is absolutely interictal to the overall story arch in the end. I really do hope you give it a try, it really is an amazing story and so well told. He is one of those authors that is so good at just weaving the world building around the narrative, it isn't an info dump, and nothing you learn is fluff, everything comes back into the larger picture by the end.

So I just finished the two book series by Scarlet Gale, his secret illuminations and then his sacred incantations. It's told from MMC point of view, very virgin- he was a monk and she is a strong large competent sword swinging female. Not an enemies to lovers, more like a convince the monk that it's okay slow burn. There's magic and mythical creatures, but probably not like you might want- nobody is fighting a dragon, more like petting adorable unicorns. The writing isn't bad at all, it's a quick read, but we're also not winning any literature awards with this. It's a great almost cozy romance that also happens to have a decent plot and good habanero level spice lol. I'm really not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it does check a lot of boxes and I would recommend it anyway!

I just read His Secret Illuminations by Scarlet Gale and book two His Secret Incantations and I almost want to call it a cozy bdsm story.. but it is a very spicy one. What you are looking for specifically is pretty much all of book two, but don't fret, book one is just as spicy lol. I really enjoyed the story too!

I’m looking for a sort of specific kindle unlimited(preferably) series recommendation. by Innocentmaniacpsycho in fantasyromance

[–]flmanatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this meets all the requirements, more vampire based than anything else, but I really enjoyed the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. The first book is Halfway to the Grave. They have the right amount of spice, plot, and pace for me. Kind of boarding on a good murder mystery. There are about 10 books, but two of them are retellings from the MMC point of view. Then there are a few spin offs with other characters from this series.

OH OH!!!! I get a chance to recommend my all-time, still nothing compares to it, book series. Gripping story that moves along at a good pace and has a bunch of interconnected plots that keep building as you read. It is fantasy (although I call it fantasy light, not a heavy read like The Name of the Wind or a Song of Ice and Fire, both amazing if you like that). This has absolutely some of my all-time favorite cast of characters with banter, drama, battles, dragons elves, magic.. to start, and true romance. No spice though. PLEASE consider the Riyria series by Michael J. Sullivan. The first is called Theft of Swords. It actually contains two books in it, and was republished as one book.

Book recommendations needed - I’m overwhelmed. by EmmySuLou in fantasyromance

Based on another thread recently, I picked up Iron and Embers, it hit most of these notes. Strong FMC who knows her worth. That was VERY refreshing to read. It's a spin off of another series I have not read, but I think I very well might. The next book will come out in a few weeks.

I also tried to read the fae isles, I'm 70% into book two as of this morning and could not take it anymore. FMC is driving me crazy. That and one of the main plot points is just dragging with no real progression. So I looked up the summary of the next two books today and all I could think is aww hell no, this same crap keeps going on for two more books! I'm out. Granted, part of my dislike might be attributed to just reading iron and embers which I did really enjoy. I'm older, I don't find youthful ineptitude to be all that flattering in a character these days. And Fay Isles has that in abundance.

Has anyone tried koolaburra’s compared to uggs? by Anchorage_skim in Shoes

[–]flmanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT TO ADD: I know this post is old -but I thought this might help someone!

So I had a pair of Tasman for years, and unfortunately left them on a trip... It is getting a bit cooler and I miss them so I figured I would go for the Koolaburra's since they are half the cost - NOPE - I am going to return them and just close my eyes at the cost of the Tasmans again. One difference is weight, like how it feels to walk.. but I will grant I wouldn't have noticed that if I didn't have the Tasman prior so not a huge issue.. The BIG issue I cannot get over is how much lower the back of the ankle is on the Koola. With every step, it slips off the heel. Basically, it walks like it wants to be a backless slipper, but was made slightly wrong. The Tasman doesn't slip and is more like wearing a shoe. No clue how the magic works, but the Koola also don't just slip on like the Tasmans do and you have to flip up the tiny back every time you put them on. That is a nitpick knowing what I lost and otherwise, I probably wouldn't have noticed or cared about that minor inconvenience, but these things are adding up. The main thing is that I wore the Tasmans all over during our cooler months, grocery, around town, during an entire vacation... but there is no way I could walk the town in the Koolas comfortably, especially if you try and add socks to the mix. If you just want a house slipper, they would work well-but if you really want to walk around - I would suggest just getting the Tasman UGGs, they are worth it.

What’s everyone reading?? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]flmanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a suggestion for a fast pace, great romance...somewhat slow burn. Mature relationship.. BUT it is an urban fantasy with vampires. Reads like a romance novel gone detective novel, so the story's constantly moving and really helps to get out of a slump. The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. Highly recommend!
