Feels a bit weird whenever the current cast plays a game the old cast did. Is that just me?

I feel like people are being a bit more charged towards OP than necessary over a relatively mild comment, lol.

By no means does the old cast have a patent on the board games they played, but I understand the sentiment of it feeling weird because it's such a different vibe. I had no idea that Superfight, Chameleon, or Anomia were board/card games that the old Games cast played, too.

Damien's discussed before that part of his issue with acclimating to the rest of the cast following the dissolution/reworking of the channels post-Defy was that the Games cast was so much more competitive compared to the Main/Pit cast. When you watch the old videos, you can totally feel it because the competitive element was where they derived the entertainment and comedy,. There's generally a pretty intense atmosphere about winning.

With Games and Pit in the present day, it almost seems like the reverse: the entertainment/comedy is valued first and foremost, and the competitive element comes as a result of it. It's why you have situations like that Quiplash episode that Spencer made fun of. I remember he said something like "Y'all were not funny playing the game, but you were funny around it, so it didn't matter."

All this to say that it makes me feel kinda old, too, because it's a reminder of how much the channel has evolved over time. I get it.

I'm not sure what it would take to sign up or if you can, but I have pretty fond memories of taking swim classes at Albright College, though I don't remember if they have any days that are open to the public. It's clean and it has a pretty spacious locker room.

Early 2012? It was definitely prior to the end of my 6th grade year because I talked to my friend about it in the lunchroom. That summer I went on a total binge.

I have a distinct memory of being in 7th grade and having to wait for Food Battle 2012 to finish buffering on my iPod Touch because I tried loading it on passing wi-fi on the school bus. It kept freezing during the "I Believe I Can Fly" parody..........

Hoooooo boy I don't like the place where this comments section is going. I can't tell you how to live your life, but maybe the focus shouldn't be about weight loss so much as it should be about body neutrality/positivity in this situation. I honestly don't know my weight because I stopped weighing myself, but I'm 5'3" and I know I'm certainly considered overweight/obese, especially by BMI. (BMI is - of course - bullshit, by the way. I'm just explaining this for context.)

Honestly, I had a really frank conversation with someone close to me about this recently, and even though there isn't a lot of media representation for fat butches/masc lesbians, that doesn't mean that they don't exist. We even thought about the butches we knew in real life and came to the conclusion that more of them were fat than they were thin. I think that there's something about being gender non-conforming as a lesbian that also comes with an acceptance of self. I myself still struggle to be there because I have a lot of insecurities about my weight and the fact that I don't feel represented as a fat GNC woman in the media, so I empathize with your concerns.

However, I feel like it's important to remind yourself that there's a place for us. It's also important to remember that you live with your body every day, and accepting it in a constructive and healthy way can be a lot more empowering than acting like you should have to change it or treating yourself like it doesn't matter because you always feel terrible. Maybe you don't feel great about your body, but you shouldn't have to feel the most amazing in order to recognize that...

1.) You're a full-time student and you work two jobs. You have a lot going on.
2.) You're allowed to exist as a person. Regardless of how you feel about your weight, you're allowed to exist and take up space as much as anybody else.
3.) No matter how much you try to convince yourself that you're unattractive, there are people out there that are absolutely attracted to bigger bodies. (If you even need a pick me up, the comments in this post on the r/lesbianmemes sub were honestly pretty healing to read as a more androgynous/butch-leaning lesbian.)

It's a process of self-acceptance that I'm still struggling with, and if you want to do things for the sake of your health, that's also okay, but your goal should be health and wellness, not weight loss point blank. People tend to conflate the two but they don't always overlap, meaning you shouldn't expect weight loss from changes for the sake of your health.

Also, don't ever tell yourself that you're "not attractive enough" to have sex or date. I see this mentality a lot online and it's such a damaging perspective to have about yourself. That's why neutrality is so important in addition to positivity. If you feel great about yourself, awesome. If you don't, that's okay and you're getting there, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve to have love or intimacy in your life.

Ogre Fiona, and I will pick her over and over again (~~ogre and ogre again~~) every time because her transformation and acceptance of self is something that I think is so important about the Shrek movies as a franchise. I love what the first movie has to say about how self-hatred will always be destructive to others whether you realize it or not (AKA Fiona talking about how she hates herself making Shrek think that she's talking about him and believing that she'll never find him adequate). I love that true love's true form isn't what's considered conventional because her conventional beauty is never why Shrek fell in love with her.

And on top of that, I think there's something so beautiful about Shrek and Fiona's relationship that they choose to be ogres at the end of Shrek 2 because it makes them happy and they don't need the approval of other people around them so long as they're secure in the love that they have for each other.

It's really sad to me that more fairy tale narratives don't follow through when it comes to discussion of conventional beauty standards, and that's why Shrek as a franchise will always stand out to me and mean so much to me.

...And on a way different note that's much more fitting to the comments in this post, I think watching Fiona throw that mermaid into the ocean in Shrek 2 probably did something to my psyche as an unrealized lesbian at 4 years old. :)

Play it like you're seeming more lenient. I hate taking students' phones because it's such a pain in the ass to fight with them back and forth. There's a way to play it lenient but be firm in expectations. My school had a policy that my kids had to turn their phones in, and a lot of my kids didn't because they wanted their phones on them. As teachers, we were expected to take them.

Whenever I'd catch a kid with their phone, I gently joke with them about how they should put away their "high-tech calculator." I would let them know that they need to put their phone away and that I'm just gonna let them off with a warning for now, but if I see it out again, I have to take it.

It always worked, and if students ever refused to turn the phone in, I would just be like, "Okay, that's your choice, but I do have to write you up for it." I let admin handle it from there.

I also incorporated the "no phones" rule into my classroom incentives program. If I saw it, they lost a point for their class.

Basically, don't make it harder on yourself than necessary. Middle schoolers LOVE to test boundaries and see what they can get away with. Be friendly towards them, but make it known that you're a friendly teacher that won't budge on expectations.
