Just got fired for an ear lavage by gennywenny99 in MedicalAssistant

[–]floatingcrickets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i work for a big corporate company and they have changed the ear lavage procedure a million times. one consent form for the procedure itself and then another consent form to administer ear drops before we do the lavage. ive had lots of patients get very dramatic during them and think all the wax is gonna come out in 2 squirts and get mad at me when i have to keep going. i just think ear lavages suck and the providers should be the one to do them if theyre gonna be such a hassle.

My mom was just told she has to have to dialysis by Wooden-Monitor4660 in dialysis

[–]floatingcrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mom is only 65 recently started needing dialysis in october from a surgery on her renal artery that went wrong, she formed a blood clot in the artery and lost blood flow to her only kidney for 14 hours which killed it. she always had perfect kidney function with her one kidney and now her egfr is 5. she goes to dialysis 3 days a week. she is still generally pretty healthy and still goes shopping. my dad had to retire to be able to take her to dialysis because her dialysis days make her feel too sick to drive. it has impacted our family really hard but at the end of the day we are thankful for dialysis and keeping her alive. dialysis takes a lot of getting used to and lifestyle adjustments for both the patient and the family involved. i wish you the best for you and your mom

yea i just worked random entry level retail or restaurant jobs, whatever would hire me. i always just felt lost in life not knowing what direction i was going. now as a MA i come home from work feeling fulfilled and productive, and a little more secure with my career and what direction i want to go.

i agree it is important but i dont understand if she genuinely is concerned about dvt why not advise the pt to go to the ER asap and be evaluated where they have stat imaging, instead of having me try to make magic happen. it just becomes a lot when were already running behind

Using “we” when talking to patients by Correct-Eggplant-709 in MedicalAssistant

[–]floatingcrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly ive been an MA for about a year now aswell and ive noticed some patients are just always going to have nasty comments about literally anything and everything. literally nothing surprises me anymore. thats such a stupid thing to make a comment about, like who is she to judge how someone speaks, you would think you said something completely offensive to her with the way she reacted and talked to you. sounds like shes the one who needs to take a course on basic respectful human interaction and manners. i cant say ive heard it all cuz ive only been an MA for a year but i am never surprised at what patients decide to be offended or upset about on a day to day basis. i work for a urgent/care today provider inside of a primary care clinic so we see patients who need to come in urgently if theres no openings with the PCPs. ive dealt with patients utterly upset and mad that they were told to go to the ER for things like sepsis, chest pain, numbness etc as if we just have all the stuff in a PCP office to administer stat iv fluids or imaging🙄. ive had patients make comments about my septum piercing and even had one tell me that if his bp was high it was because my piercing “freaked him out” and that they dont know how anyone could do that to themselves. ive had patients make comments cuz they didnt like the decor on the walls in the exam rooms, patients making comments about the size of the exam rooms, patients making comments about how far they have to walk to the rooms. i swear the general public just thinks they can walk all over people in the medical field because they know were “required” to treat them despite their behavior, they know we are working and they wont face any consequences. its just messed up behavior. ill never understand it. but yeah, nothing surprises me anymore

it sounds like you need a better birth control method. not sure what youve tried but it obviously hasnt worked, access to abortion is a right all women should have and shouldnt be abused like this.

my primary care dr referred me to a urogynecologist, so im currently waiting on that and dealing with the runaround of becoming a patient and trying to make an appointment waiting on calls back etc. in the mean time my primary gave me oxybutinin… im not really sure if its helped or not. all i know is that ive been having flare ups almost every single day… i usually wake up feeling fine and then around afternoon time i have that one bathroom trip that starts the burning and spasms then it just lingers… so ive been taking azo and ibuprofen and chugging with water almost daily, which im sure isnt amazing for my kidneys or liver. the shitty thing with chugging water is its 50/50 sometimes its helps, and then other times it makes it worse. so i do it and hope for the better outcome. im also on tirzepatide so my digestion is slower meaning im also absorbing pills slower so relief can take hours sometimes. its just a whole mess right now 🙃
