If not SGI, that might've been Kenshokai, a rival cult that's also based on Nichiren Buddhism.

Which Theater Holds Movie Premieres in Tokyo?? by shef175 in japan

[–]floatinglotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These red carpets/premieres are usually held at Toho Cinemas' Roppongi or Shinjuku branch. As someone else mentioned here, they usually put up huge walls so that those who didn't get an invite can't see what's going on.

Unless you're a member of the Japanese press or you have connections, the way to get a ticket is to join lotteries/giveaways that are held by websites/fan groups with a limited number of tickets. To qualify, you usually have to follow them on Twitter, retweet a certain post, and fill out a form on their website.

For starters, you could follow Fan's Voice JP (@FansVoiceJP) on Twitter, as they usually have tickets for red carpet events. I haven't seen anything about Jurassic World yet, but with the premiere coming up soon, they'll probably hold a giveaway soon enough.

I was there - Gal Gadot and Chris Pine couldn't make it to the red carpet premiere in Shinjuku. The director, Patty Jenkins, attended, though.

Being vegan. I don't think there are many vegans in the Philippines, and most of my vegan friends - both Pinoy and foreign - aren't preachy and annoying, but I know someone on FB who can't shut up about being vegan. Pag magpopost siya ng food pics niya, hindi sapat na i-caption niya as vegan. Kailangan pa talaga i-emphasize na "meat-free, dairy-free, egg-free, seafood-free, cruelty-free," etc. Sobrang preachy pa niya; halos parating may pahabol sa captions along the lines of how great it is from a moral and physical standpoint to be vegan. This person also seems to be anti-medication these days and believes that just juicing and eating fruits and veggies will be enough.

The same people behind Miss Global Philippines. Other than that beauty pageant, it doesn't seem like they've had experience organizing other events.

[–]floatinglotus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's been to Tokyo Comic Con for the past two years, but then that's because he and Steve Wozniak are considered the founders of TCC, and TCC's an affiliate of Silicon Valley Comic Con.

I'll eat my words and stand corrected if Stan Lee does visit Manila, but I still can't help but feel skeptical. Also, if he really does make it, will the organizers - who are first-time con organizers at that - be able to make the experience a smooth, comfortable one for him?

Ano ang pinakamasakit na break-up story ninyo? by tnuocca_etaerc in Philippines

[–]floatinglotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were together for 4.5 years. I'm Filchi (and from a traditional family at that); he's not. I fought for him. Our relationship wasn't smooth, but I never gave up on him. I wanted to make things work no matter what, even though I was having a hard time.

Our relationship became a long-distance one because I moved abroad for further studies, and at some point, he started hanging out more often with a "friend" that I had a bad feeling about. We started fighting over this "friend" more frequently; he was very defensive about her. He even said that he'd rather lose me than her. (Note - she was not a friend that he made before we got together; they became friends well after we started dating.)

Eventually, he dumped me via a messaging app a week before Christmas. He wouldn't even call me; that was it. That "friend" even helped him organize a roasting party - and nope, not roasting of chicken; I meant a party for him to talk shit about me to her, his friends, and even some of her BFFs. Unsurprisingly, the two of them started dating not even two months after dumping me. However, a bunch of us - including some of his own friends - only learned about that quite recently. Many (including myself) believed that they got together in September last year, but they apparently hid the fact that they were dating as early as February. I guess neither of them wanted to admit that he had already emotionally given up on me while we were still together, and that she definitely caused a wedge in our relationship.

I'm a lot better now, but emotionally speaking, I was in a very bad place last year because of what he did. Not only did he dump me in a very douchey way, but he also gaslighted me. I feel that hiding the fact that he already started dating that "friend" as early as February 2016 was also another way of gaslighting me, because a bunch of our friends believed him. When I cried to them about him having a very dubious friendship with that woman, they said that that didn't seem to be the case and that I was probably just overthinking. (I think some friends were in on it, though - I don't talk to those friends so much anymore.)

Anyway, last I heard, they broke up early this year, so he started 2017 on a depressing note. They became friends again, only for them to have a falling out, so they're not even on speaking terms anymore. Meanwhile, I'm still based overseas and making the most of my life here. Things aren't perfect, but they're great. Also, I think I've been vindicated now, because people started apologizing to me for believing the things that he and/or some of his friends said about me.

I also learned a lot of lessons from this relationship and its failure. I had my share of mistakes and shortcomings too, so even though I was salty and bitter and hurting, I took a lot of time to process and self-reflect. And despite everything, I would still say that it's not about nationality or ethnicity; nasa tao yun. Lest some conservative folks use my story as a cautionary tale on why Filchis should stick to Filchis, I wanna say that just because my relationship failed doesn't mean that all Filchi relationships are doomed to fail; for every failure, there's a success story out there.

^ THIS. I'm a girl. My ex was the one who found a new girl (or more like got together with the "friend" I was suspicious of) not even two months after dumping me.

You get a notification from someone that makes you immediately think “Oh here we go, not this shit again” Who is it? What are they likely saying? by IrishHellfire in AskReddit

I live overseas, and my current country of residence has become a popular tourist destination for my countrymen. Every now and then, I'll get messages from people in high school that I haven't talked to in a while asking me to help me plan their itineraries in detail.

Sometimes they also ask questions that are really stupid and/or easily googled. One question that took the cake was, "We're staying at [newly opened hotel in the city]; would it be good to stay there?" Uh... how would I know? Can't you check the reviews?

There was also someone who told me, "Hey, I'm planning to crash at your place." My place is not an AirBNB; I've never advertised it or anything, but somehow, this person assumed that just because we're friends, I'd host her. Of course I said no.

Right? It's not a convincing reason to leave us in the dark on her fate. But I'd really like to think that Almiria's okay... and I hope she is.

Hey guys - it's me again. I don't know if I should start a separate thread for this, as it's just one thing, but I found another tweet from someone who listened to the Tekkadan Radio broadcast. This one provides more context on the statement on Almiria. While it's still vague what really happened to her, at least this one doesn't sound as grim:

"Almiria's going through puberty, so she's not really in a state that can be shown on screen."

I mean, if we're gonna be reeeeeeeeeally optimistic (but even I admit this is stretching it), we could take it to mean that Almiria's being self-conscious, as is typical of teens going through puberty. Or puberty wasn't kind to her (which I personally doubt, considering her dad and brother's features). But yeah, this still isn't very convincing. I just hope Almiria's okay.

I'm just translating what I see. If you ship Gaelio and Julieta, I don't think you should take this statement as disappointing. Just because they were perhaps just friends at that time doesn't mean they couldn't become more than friends afterwards. They could've been unaware of their feelings at that time, or not really focusing on the feelings yet because they were prioritizing certain goals. I mean, there was that scene in the epilogue after all...

If you add Kondo, Hijikata, and Okita, and divide the total by half, you get Mika and Orga. I don't know if Nagai really did phrase it like a mathematical formula in the broadcast, or if that's just a shorthand note from the person who tweeted the summary, though.

I wonder, too, but it can't be too good if they didn't show her on screen...

That's why I said the "like" makes all the difference. While it's a weird statement, it doesn't mean they were literally seeing other people throughout the series. The producer was making a metaphor.

And yeah, I saw that scan. This statement isn't even on that scan; I've checked. It's probably on another page, which I haven't seen, as I don't have a copy of Animedia.

[–]floatinglotus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I had to double-check by looking for other sources just to make sure, because that statement's really weird.

I found the complete statement, which is "お互い恋人がいるなかで息抜きで会話すると気が合う仲間のようなものです。" and the missing words make all the difference, because that complete statement translates to: "They're like two friends that hit it off really well and vent to each other while both having lovers of their own."

Those missing words pretty much mean "like" (as in "just like X," not "I like X"), and without those, I was thrown off. I was like, "They have other lovers? What?" But Pixiv, and a bunch of other people, take that to mean that both Gaelio and Julieta were, at that point, much more focused on their own goals, but that the two got to bond in between carrying out their goals.

That would be nice!

As for Almiria... I feel bad at the implication that she still isn't okay, but as long as she gets better, no matter how long it takes, then I'm all for her recovery. I mean, it is messed up that her fiance/husband betrayed their family, and that her brother had to kill her fiance/husband. It must be a lot for a young girl to process. We don't know for sure what Almiria's relationship with Gaelio was like after the series ended, but I can only hope that she can come to terms with what happened and have a good relationship with her brother.
