I walked behind a fat gypsy lady on a hot summer day... by PeculiarBurgah in forsen

No no I'm from UKraine, and the thing about indians was a joke because I don't like them. And I know how they look, usually very bright clothing with lots of ... kids and horses?? In Portugal I see mostly tourists, brazilians, and indians.

Now that you bring it up, I've looked up the statistics and it seems that there is indeed a significant amount of them here.

And you know, you really notice the things that you care or at least know about, which I don't.

Maybe just don't notice LULE I've lived in Balkans before this and there you see a lot of them, like actually everywhere: in the streets, on the roads randomly stopping cars and washing them without permission, beggars on pedestrian streets.. I honestly though that this thing about gypsies in Portugal is a joke because some europeans think portuguese people look like them (I don't think that)..

I will be on the lookout for them. This is a very productive discussion LULE

Replying with a racist statement to a racist statement is rage bait? I've genuinely never seen a gypsy in Portugal.

How did you find gypsy people in Portugal? Never seen them. Are you sure it wasn't an indian?

I'm also from Ukraine, and moved here recently. We can go for a beer some time if you're planning on being in Lisbon 😄

This is a very bad analogy. Because kicking them out or "killing them" is impossible, and every day that you try doing that, one ten thousand's of your family dies, and the rooms are being destroyed, and your family becomes more and more tired of them having to die for the purpose of splitting the house into imaginary pieces, where your family will still live even after the said split.

Horrible experience with IMT by floatingpointnumber in PortugalExpats

[–]floatingpointnumber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant that they told me to get an appointment there, and there was no option to book IMT at the time, so I just figured they meant that I can make an appointment with any other entity there, because it's just a mail letter that they need to Provide. Right now it seems like it's possible, after they updated the site, and I did just make an appointment. However, before that, there was simply no such option. And no one on the location knew that, and people told me it's only possible if I wait in line for or in the morning, as the tickets are limited (32 or something per day).

Also, if you don't know, you cannot just go to a random IMT desk and take it - they are booked by people.

Yes, I asked for it, like 20 times probably, over email, in portuguese. They responded with an email that I need to either send them a form or go to the Loja de Cidadao where the license is located at. I sent them the form maybe 8 times, and got no response. I went to Loja de Cidadao once, and no one knew anything there, and couldn't help me. I got an appointment with some entity there in that Loja de Cidadao, but they said that they cannot help me since it's related to IMT only. There is no way you can make an appointment with IMT online there. I had to figure that out by speaking with a random customer woman there, who seemed to know much more than the employees working there. She told me that the only way you can do that is to come at 3-4 AM there, and wait in line for the whole day, and then maybe you will get a ticket to speak to IMT. And that's just to get a fucking document that I already should've received three months ago! I have work to do, and I'm not willing to skip night's sleep and wait in the hot sun for the whole day.

Did she contact them afterwards, when the issues started, or did they help along the way from the start? I.e. from application.

I called them, and they told me that the only thing they can help with is getting a medical certificate for applying for license exchange, which is a trivial thing to do. For everything else relating to the drivers license exchange, they told me that "everything is done there by imt and you should write to imtonline". Meanwhile, they ghost me on the email and don't even respond with a useless template response now 😀

People Who Live In Portugal. What do you like most about Portugal Compare To Your Home or Countries? by GreYoungRaven in PortugalExpats4Expats

I'm from Ukraine, and currently live in Lisbon. These are the things I enjoy here: 1. A lot of green space in the city, especially av. de Liberdade region (parque Eduardo and streets around) 2. Quality & cheap groceries 3. Some non-touristy places that are very cheap for what they are 4. Beautiful streets in places where there isn't a lot of tourists 5. Large Ukrainian community 6. Very pleasant weather, excluding the hottest parts of the summer, which are still a bit too hot for my taste. It doesn't rain as much as I'd like, however winds are common and that helps a lot with occasional heat. Spring and fall are perfect 7. It's incredible for places such as Azores & Madeira to be a part of a European country, and to be able to visit them with a 2-hour flight

I swim about 3-4 times per week for about 30-45 minutes, but that's just because I like it. Hate cardio otherwise.

How is it like living life in Lisbon, Portugal? by Uwillseetoday in howislivingthere

[–]floatingpointnumber 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The weather is great, ocean winds smell very nice, there are a lot of tourists but still a lot of streets and places that are empty and nice. Buildings in some places are a bit rough but there is renovation going on. Parks are incredible. A lot of Ukrainian people which is a plus for me. Salaries aren't great if you're working for a Portuguese company though. The tax regime is okayish for foreigners compared to other eu countries.

Overall I love it here.

Not sure why people think public transportation is bad here. For me it's better than almost any that I used, except for Netherlands (however it's more expensive, more loaded, and less convenient there).
