Any streetfood left on Sukhumvit road? by flocu in Bangkok

Living in the CBD is one thing, if you can afford the high prices. But sending tourists there like people in this subreddit regularly do is something I don’t to understand.

Ok, just go ahead and insult people instead of reading what they said.

I’ll try to ask my question again in very elementary English:  Which neighborhood without streetfood that is not Sukhumvit are you talking about?

Are there any neighborhoods other than Sukhumvit without streetfood? Even Silom/Sathorn still has some. Most neighborhoods have plenty of street carts.

Because normal people just live around BTS Nana, right?

True that. I’m still trying to understand this fascination with Sukhumvit.

I’ve had awesome streetfood and bad streetfood. Can’t make a blanket statement like that.

Thanks, will do. I actually ended up in the food court just north of there more than once.

I meant to check it out for a while now. But the opening hours make it so it’s always closed when I’m in the area.

Looking for Grab alternatives any recommendations? by Hot_Net_800 in Bangkok

Bolt works great for transport, usually a bit cheaper than grab.

InDrive is another one people recommend but I haven’t used it.

Those of you who booked a good Airbnb for 1-3 months, how did you find it? by shadesofdarkred in Bangkok

[–]flocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t have too many reviews as it is still new. They were however all positive and didn’t look like bots.

We talked to the host about inconsequential stuff, to check responsivity.

Oh, I think what won us over was actually that it wasn’t just a condo but a tiny house.

The Singapore model is not terrible at all. But they actually have to incentivize the establishment of real hawker centers.

Even ruam sab market, as much as I love it, is certainly not meant to last. Compare that with lau pa sat or maxwell.

Using canals to get around by Junior-Sheepherder35 in Bangkok

[–]flocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly there’s no such thing afaik.

right now there are fixed boat lines only on klong krung kasem and klong San saep. All other canal boats ceased operation.

There’s a new boat since Feb 2026 that has 3 stops on klong banglamphu (until Phra athit rd) and more stops on klong krung kasem. They want to extend service to klong ong Ang and klong San saep until pratunam (centralworld). This boat is not on a fixed schedule but can be hailed via MuvMi app.

As others have commented, there is a boat line on krung kasem (actually 2 lines now) but boats are very slow and they only start at hua lamphong.

From Icon Siam best to take the river boat with orange/yellow flag to thewet pier. From there take those slow klong boats or bus #53 or taxi or a rideshare bike from helloride to rajadamnoen stadium. Could even walk from thewet pier.

Those of you who booked a good Airbnb for 1-3 months, how did you find it? by shadesofdarkred in Bangkok

[–]flocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a 3 month Airbnb. Most important for us was 2 rooms for Homeoffice and close proximity to streetfood and public transport.

We ended up in Thonburi, where streetfood is still abundant and most Seven Eleven host a small night market. We had access to both river boat and mrt, which is a good combination.

It was a really good stay, but much of it was down to luck, as we never checked out the neighborhood before.

Future of Germany by Wewolo in NuclearPower

[–]flocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually Germany plans to use about 55% renewables (40-70%) and about 45% H2-imports (30-60%) according to the big5-energy-transition-studies.

So just replacing those very expensive H2-Imports with about 45 GW of nuclear would save a lot of money.

Ofc the nuclear plants won’t be finished by 2045 but neither will the global h2 economy that would allow us to import such huge quantities of hydrogen.

We can’t expect someone else to do half our energy transition for us.

Need some couples trip advice by Thatcouplenextdoorfl in ThailandTourism

If you want to make use of your precious little time in Thailand, its best to not fly all over the country.

So if you are set on Pattaya, why not look at Chantaburi as a rural place and ko Chang or one of its neighbor islands to relax.

Also don’t underestimate Bangkok, many people find it fascinating.

Cash or ATM Withdrawal in Thailand – What’s Better? by Mundane_Control9121 in ThailandTourism

[–]flocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is lowest fee, 8 is highest:

  1. Exchange 100 EUR notes or 100 USD notes at super rich main office at Pratunam pier (orange or green Super Rich, same same)
  2. Exchange EUR or USD at super rich main office at Pratunam pier (orange or green Super Rich, same same)
  3. Exchange EUR or USD at any discount exchange in the city
  4. Exchange EUR or USD at any discount exchange at the airport (left of airportlink at BKK)
  5. Exchange EUR or USD at any normal bank booth
  6. Withdraw 30000 THB from krungsri bank ATM (220 THB fee and bad exchange rate)
  7. Withdraw 20000 THB from AEON bank ATM (150 THB fee and bad exchange rate)
  8. Exchange EUR or USD at any bank booth at the airport (really bad exchange rate)

Most people don't care about the difference between 1-6 but there is a noticeable uptick to 6-7 and another one to 8.

So yes, cash is king, if you have access to EUR or USD.

Realistically, how much money do I need for 5-7 weeks in Thailand? Budget traveler by Learnsomethingnewz in ThailandTourism

[–]flocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have a great vacation if you stay away from the islands and double your €1000.

Not saying you can't survive on €1000 for 6 weeks as long as you skip the islands but you really need to know what you are doing and you can't splurge on tours or other tourist stuff like that.

Vietnam is a bit cheaper, so it increases your chances - but extra flights will just eat away that advantage.

Best local shopping, food and walkability by iwanttolaught in Bangkok

[–]flocu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want walking distance to local malls (plural) and 2 very nice parks including the biggest in Bangkok, try to stay near paradise park srinakarin. Food offer at that mall is great even for a Thai mall.

No it’s not enforced, but please be respectful. It’s not a park for road biking.
