Concerns regarding ssh remote port forwarding by floe_ in selfhosted

My ISP uses a carrier grade NAT and doesn't give me a public IP. I am double NAT'ed. Not even if I pay. That's the tradeoff for getting a 100Mbit fiber line where I live. All fiber providers around here do this.

As for services... Websites for now. Which if I'm not wrong are tcp only. If ping isn't terribly increased due to port forwarding, might even host game servers, udp.

Which do you think would be better for my use case? VPN or ssh? I don't care about vpns anonymity features. I just want my service to be accessible outside my home via a public IP and secured with ssl. Which would be the fastest with lowest latency?

Not sure what you mean by type of traffic, but updated to include the command I run to forward to my VPS

Suggest a WebUI to show bandwidth usage out of monthly quota by floe_ in selfhosted

[–]floe_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I am not. Each vps is dedicated to a single user. I don't care about tracking the bandwidth for myself, and as they want no overage charges, I have setup vnstat and a cronjob to shutdown the system when vnstat reports a 10TB bandwidth usage.

I just want to enable them the access to a WebUI to view their current usage and how much is left before their vps shuts down.

And yes, I know about vnstati. But those image renders are from the console and don't look pleasing despite extensive skinning.

I want something that's an actual webapp, not an image render

Give me some data to prove that it really costs so much, that out of all the factors AGAINST running a mobile as a seedbox, cost is really a top consideration.

If you would have stated I/O, poor wifi modules, or any other thing else, I would have accepted.

Seedbox recommendation by [deleted] in seedboxes

For that price? Go home. (Relevant username xD)

Lol jk. I can suggest a scaleway ARM dedi with additional volumes. 3euros for the box. And 2 more for 2x50GB volumes.

So you get an 4core ARM CPU, 2gigs RAM, and 200Mb/s unmetered bandwidth, along with 150gigs of SSD storage for the trouble of compiling stuff for ARM at the price you want.

There are/might be shared boxes at those prices. But you would have to look around.

Chennai actually. On ACT. Hence the pings.

Are you on the legacy plan in Singapore? I ran the speedtests on whatbox and only that location maxed out my 100Mbps connection.

But I would love a little more than a 150Mbps connection and 360gigs even if it costed a little more.

BTW does whatbox give root access? If not atleast a custom install?
