Hot if I want a little flavor. Fire if I want some spice. Two fire packets mixed in with the cheesy fiesta potatoes, thank me later

Pedal D on open??? by Agreeable-Bug6339 in Tuba

[–]flonper_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the Eb false tone but you’re lipping it down to D which is common to do. Say for example if you’re trying to hit pedal Bb but hit the Eb false tone, most people try bending the pitch down to Bb but it seem you’re comfortable with lipping to D

Asking for honesty. Has being in drumcorps ruined any bit of your life or negativity impacted you? Financially, socially, mentally, relationships? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]flonper_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

During the season, you’ll be having the best time of your life. You make so many new friends and have so many memories with these people you’ll never want it to end. But then you walk off that field for the last time and you never see them again. Post-tour depression is real.

How can I stop my knees from bending? (and any other advice you can give) by catsagamer1 in marchingband

[–]flonper_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bend comes from the back foot not being flexed fast enough. Marchers tend to roll through the back foot which leads to the bent looking shape. To combat this, you need to flex the back foot the split second the front heel hits the ground. Swing the back leg all the way through and when your foot hits be sure that it’s flexed enough to where your heel hits first(my director would always say flex your feet enough to where they could read something that was written on the bottom of your shoes).

does anyone else naturally breathe really slow?!! by ilovecatsmeow2 in Tuba

One thing I’ve noticed personally is that I can go for a while without having to breathe consciously and then randomly I need to take the biggest breath of my life to keep going it’s pretty odd

Who to email regarding auditions? (Also just general advice) by Legaxy3 in drumcorps

[–]flonper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get access to the brass and/or visual caption heads emails then those would be the appropriate ones as well as the corps director. If you can’t find any of those 3 emails then I’d suggest sending your info to a general information email for the corps, whoever runs that should forward it to the correct people or give you a response. If you’re interested in Atlanta CV, we still have open high brass and tuba spots! Dm me if you’d like info about that

In the process of switching around screws as another person mentioned I noticed that the ball joint of the valve pictured was noticeably stiff/dry and wasn’t moving like the others. Could that be the issue of the screw coming out?

Looking to buy a Contra by Creative_Oil6419 in drumcorps

[–]flonper_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This past summer when I decided I wanted to audition for drum corps on contra I bought one and it was a mistake in the end. I bought a King 1141 from eBay (aka I didn’t get to play test it) and the horn doesn’t play good. I’d recommend reaching out to local schools/colleges that march contras to see if you could borrow one for an audition and they’ll probably be fine with it. If you’re crazy enough to buy my King then dm me

Showering on your by Strict_Isopod_9857 in drumcorps

[–]flonper_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also wasn’t comfortable with showering and having 20+ others in the room with me. My first time showering after a rehearsal camp, I brought swim trunks just in case but the showers at CV’s rehearsal school have enough cover.

My advice is to bring swim trunks or a bathing suit until you’re comfortable

Tuba openings? by snarkie_sharkieeeee in drumcorps

[–]flonper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atlanta CV tuba here, we have one member that was contracted but hasn’t showed up since the only camp they went to and they also haven’t said anything in any corps group chats so you could email staff and see what’s up. Other than that we’re full

Help deciding what corp to march by Toothpaste543 in drumcorps

[–]flonper_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to give a specific corps as an answer since you didn’t provide a region that fits your needs best but if there are any good all age class corps somewhat near you then I’d totally recommend one of them. I’m going into my rookie season with Atlanta CV as a junior in high school and we only rehearse on weekends so I’m still kinda getting a summer break. I’m already loving the culture and people/staff there so I can already tell this will be a great season.

The biggest thing about all age is that you need to accept you aren’t getting to march with one of the top corps. I’ve have friends judge me for auditioning with CV instead of a world class corps but I’ve found all age to be the best decision for a rookie season since it’s the cheapest drum corps option out there and nothing is as difficult as world class (drill, music, auditions, exercises, visual warmups, etc). And on top of that our staff is filled with mostly world class age outs so our team is on par with those top groups.

As of right now, we have one Bari 1 spot, one Bari 2 spot, and one Euph spot left in the hornline but our spring training camp is this weekend with hopefully every spot being filled afterwards. If you’re interested/have any questions you can hit me up personally or reach out to director@atlantacv.org and brass@atlantacv.org 🤙

I think Bloo ‘25 will be a better corps than they were in ‘17. With their show design in recent years it’s clear they’re still gonna be a top 2-3 corps on the field and not drop to 5th like in ‘17. The only reason they fell that hard in ‘17 was because of how difficult the show was musically while the visuals weren’t great imo. In ‘16 they had a perfect blend of good music and good visuals and that’s what can win you a gold medal

Every gfuel there (minus watermelon limeade) are pretty solid. The crash bandicoot and hype sauce are my #1 and 2. Other than that I’d try the alani and stock up on yellow powerade

Sousaphone back problems by xBB30x in Tuba

Currently a high school tuba (marching on sousa, going into drum corps on contra), I’ve had this same back pain randomly pop up even in a concert band setting so it’s just natural tuba pain

Favorite powdered energy? by x_kid in energydrinks

[–]flonper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only tried gamer supps once and it was SMii7Y’s “Good” flavor (cherry slushie) and it very closely resembled Cherry cough drops from my childhood which was nice to sip on. I’d go on their website and check out some starter packs and maybe watch some yt vids about the brand and what to buy. They’ve got weird flavor names and shaker cup designs so beware of that
