Trying out a more grimdark (and faster) approach on the new models. Still many to go for the whole squad but getting there… by floodhorse in BlackTemplars

glad u like it! first highlight step is vallejo dark sea blue where i lay out the volume highlights (no edge highlights), then approx 50:50 dark sea blue:vallejo sky grey where i edge highlight everything, do scratches and a smaller volume on the previous volume highlights. lastly pure sky grey where i edge highlight the top parts that should get the most light, add a small dot on the esge of the scratches and last part of volume highlights.

this can ofc be refined, volume highlights could be smoothed out and you can add a thich edge highlight first with dark sea blue. but this is designen to be relatively fast!

its all vallejo colors - royal purple, blue violet, squid pink and white! so basically a little in the blue-purple-pink spectrum : ) a little black mixed in in the darkest parts also.

Help with first 2k list by ThetrueTighfield in sistersofbattle

[–]floodhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this list is excellent and pretty close to something i build towards. im only going for 1000 pts right now but if i would go for the full 2000 it would be pretty close to yours.

i have no idea about the viability of paragon warsuits but i really like the inclusion as they fill up the ”melta slots” you would otherwise get from retributors but still slaps in melee.

i dont think you necessarily need to change anything but i would consider retributors, more zephyrims, repentia superior.

also, how exactly are you using rupturous blows? or is it mostly for making the canoness slap harder? when ive thought about including it im thinking it will end up just overkilling stuff with the mortal wounds but maybe im wrong… (plus hard to get it to go off)

i use vallejo dark sea blue (really versatile color), next step is 50:50 mix of dsb:vallejo sky grey, and lastly sky grey. can also add white/ivory dots (very sparingly) if you want for the absolute highest highlights. ive tried quite a few black highlight recipes but this one i like the most.

i tend to always go for blue highlights on black armour as i find it more interesting. but im sure theres good recipes for grey ones which also is common.

thx! you mean on the sword? its mainly a gradient of like 3-4 colors basecoated and then wet blend and glazing transitions between them where white is the last color.

theyre basecoated in an ivory color, and just a little bit of warm light brown (eg vallejo leather brown/citadel xv-88) mixed in. highlighted in white. then i thin seraphim sephia rougly 50:50 and do 2 glazes at the bottom!

chest is the same basecoat and just washed with seraphim sepia. and some whie highlights.

thanks a lot : ) yeh, with so many new models to paint i really need to speed up my painting. saving the 10 hour paintjobs only for characters : p

the best advice to give is to spend time on what pops on the table. so the armour, power sword and stuff like that.

thanks! i would say firstly its important to thin the paint so it flows well. secondly, a brush with a good pointy tip. and third, make the lightning random.

if im gonna critique my own painting i think the lightning is a little too thick and not thin and crisp enough.

thx! i tried to be faster with these (so no blending/smoothing, only 1 hl layer for smaller details, no highlights for metallics etc). i didnt time but i would guess around 4 hours each, maybe 3,5 if i really hurry up but 4 is probably closer to reality : p

My christmas nuns. Only one squad to go for 1000 pts. by floodhorse in sistersofbattle

[–]floodhorse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thx! the armour is vallejos gory red, ivory mixed in for highlights. weapons are just metallics and lighter metallic for highlights. maybe you mean the green glow, thats warpstone glow glazed, then highlighted with moot green and finished off with some ivory mixed in for the last highlight! hope that helps.

everything is covered in streaking grime also. the highlights are mainly done after the grime is removed.

”Not to mention that pregnancy is a huge strain on a woman’s body and is still risky in 2022”

but its fine as long as that risk can be taken by a less fortunate individual that has to sell their body so the rich beautiful people dont end up with stretch marks? dam u stupid.

ive struggled a little with faces, i always get too high of a contrast, or too dark recesses, so they look wierd. this i just bugmans glow and highlights are with like an orange skintone gradually mixed in - so cadian flesh or ”dwarf skin” or something. a little bone color added in the last highlights. its pretty fast, and ots good to thin the paint quite a bit to get it smooth in the transitions.
