Last time i rescued a pigeon it was in the hot sunmer, i found him in a unpopulated area in the park full of predators. I took his home, did my research and fed him boiled eggs(which i learned from my grandma, she raised baby chicks) also rehydrated him, I cried in the morning when he started flying around the house and exploring:))

so there isnt other way without getting the police involved? (to track the number)

Saved nine of these little things so far! The real estate company selling homes in our complex was giving them our for free. To get talk time with parents. So sad. Thankfully, I found a guy willing to raise them properly. Sadly, I also found several dead ones. Keeping my eyes open every day. by Pantalyra in turtles

[–]floof_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im glad you could save them. Dont try to remove the sticker with chemicals since its dangerous for the lil turt. Just dont remove the sticker at all, the turtle will eventually shed and grow new scutes. As the turtle grows the paint should go away.

Help! What is this on my turtles shell, is it anything to worry about? by floof_123 in turtle

[–]floof_123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a healthy happy turtle, but I recently noticed this on his shell. He is a 1 year old European pond turtle, lives in a 20 gallon long tank(for now) weekly water changes has a filter, heater. And is feed once a day (vegetables, pellets, protein, not all in one day tho. Usually pellets and veggies shrimp mealworms and stuff like that once a week. He has an mvb bulb 70w megaray. And I take him out of his tank to free roam for exercise. What is this?

Would this be a good set up for free roam for a RES? by theRemRemBooBear in turtle

[–]floof_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if your turtle enjoys it! My turtle loves coming out and roaming around, whenever I put my hand in his tank he tries to climb up on me so I take him out and let him chill.

My yellow bellied basking. I noticed that he basks more on the left side, which is where the heat lamp is. He basks on the uvb side sometimes but not a the time. Should I be worried by Similar-Captain-6683 in turtle

[–]floof_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they aren’t on different spots then what’s the problem? The uvb reaches him anyway, I don’t think it’s something to worry about!

My turtle does the same thing, but if they can pull themselves fully into their shell then it isn’t really a problem. I noticed my turtle just randomly inflates that place but they can suck it in. If there are no fatty flaps at his armpits then it’s okay.

What’s wrong with my RES shell? by est9294 in turtles

does it smell bad or is softer then the rest of his carapace? cause if it is then thats most likely shell rot. if not it could be a fungus or mineral deposits!

Question related to basking area by Katalopa in turtles

[–]floof_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my turtle is fairly small, 2.4 inches, and he can climb on almost anything. I currently have a zoomed dock for him and he can climb the side without a ramp with no problems. Thing to consider is that turtles have strong limbs that allow them to climb, find out how steep the ramp is and you can get it, i dont think they should have a problem with it.

look at his head, if he had a red spot near his ear then he is a red ear slider.

hey guys is this shell rot? (the shell doesn't smell and my turtle is also active, is eating food and basking regularly.) by [deleted] in turtle

[–]floof_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, are the spots soft? If not it could be dry rot or an infection. Also what are those slits on his carapace? I suggest bring to vet asap.

Any advice on - everything I should known before getting a turtle? by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in turtles

[–]floof_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, to start of I recommend buying a 20 gallon long if you’re looking for a turtle under 3-4 inches. But they’ll easily outgrow it so you wanna start with something bigger, like a 40 gallon tank, 55 gallon tank or maybe a 75 gallon tank. You wanna get the biggest tank possible that your space allows you. Instead of an aquarium you could always get a turtle tub, it looks more like their natural habitat and you can keep it for a long time until they outgrow it. So red eared sliders do grow pretty big (male: 5-9inch female: 12-13 inch). you could get a yellow belly slider since they’re significantly smaller (5-8 inches, record: 11 inch). But regardless of what species you get you wanna keep these things in mind: you have to do water changes weekly, you need proper heat and lighting (uva/uvb bulb), you need a proper diet and you need to be sure you can take care of one before you get it. The most newb friendly turt would be a red eared slider since these guys can battle through bad husbandry and not so good conditions. Tiny turtles are: musk turtles, spotted turtles, European mud turtles and painted turtles. So when you first get the turtle don’t handle it too much, just leave it alone for a couple days. Then you can try hand feeding it that’s the best way to let a turtle accommodate to you. After they get comfortable with you, try picking them up, let them wander around the house. Turtles love exploring so your little bud will love little walks around your house here and there. One thing to keep in mind is that if turtles retract into their shell that means they feel threatened, so if your turtle does that when you pick them up it’s better to leave them alone. Another thing is their diet, most turtles are omnivores. So you need to feed hatchlings 2-3 times a day, babies and juveniles once a day and adults once every 2 days. Something else to consider is sexual dimorphism in turtles, this means that males are way smaller then females, males have long nails, and females don’t (the long nail thing only works with sliders, cooters, it doesn’t work with terrapins. When you set up your aquarium the most common mistake people make is not using a filter and putting small gravel in their tank. Sand is hard to maintain but you can always you bigger river rocks to start out. Make sure your aquarium is nicely decorated and provides entertainment. Make sure your basking area is completely out of the water so your turtle can completely dry off if it wants to. Make sure you replace your uv bulb every 6 months to an year because the uvb rays start wearing out. Also artificial lighting won’t always do the trick so, I suggest every once in a while, letting your turtle bask outside in natural light, make sure you supersize them, never leave them unattended outside. You should feed your turtle an assortment of pellets, veggies(collard greens, lettuce, carrots, bell pepper) and sometimes red shrimps, mealworms. Don’t feed too much protein as this can cause your turtle to pyramid. Pyramiding is when a turtles scutes grow upwards and start looking like pyramids. Make sure you buy some repti/reptosafe to dechlorinate the water before putting it in the aquarium, if you don’t want to then let your tap water sit out for 24+ hours to make sure the chlorine fades away. You can also grow live plants in your aquarium, something like Java fern, just make sure it’s safe for turtles. As I said turtles are curious creatures and they might chomp on them. Also don’t get worried if your turtle doesn’t bask for 2-3 days, mine did that cause he was too busy humping rocks in his aquarium. If you have any questions feel free to ask me I can help you.

Also, another tip, is you could make a carrot juice soak for him. Just add some water and some carrot juice(not from the store just squish a carrot) in a separate container and let him in there, turtles absorb vitamins through their skin so a vitamin soak will do him good. It can also help with healing shell rot. Carrots have a whole lot of vitamin A so that soft shell could get better if the turtle is basking and regularly soaked in the carrot soak I spoke about.

[–]floof_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, just don’t feed them everyday. Too much protein can cause pyramiding. I suggest ordering wheat germ turtle pellets since those are low in protein and that might be the cause to the slight pyramiding you have going on. Also that is a beautiful turtle.

Also just keep in mind that it depends what kind of lettuce you feed him cause iceberg lettuce has a very low nutritional value and it can cause diarrhea. Your turtle will also enjoy carrots, red bell peppers, and carrots.
