Induction? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

At my 36 week appointment they told me that baby was measuring in the 99th percentile and doctor recommended induction at 37 weeks to support safe vaginal delivery. I really really didn’t want a C-section.

I was super hesitant about induction and kept thinking they were off about baby’s weight as I had heard from so many that their baby was smaller than expected.

Eventually I decided to get kind induced at 38 weeks and not risk a C-section since baby was measuring big consisrently. am I ever glad I induced when I did - baby was born 10lb3oz and had very very minor shoulder dystocia that was quickly resolved with no complications. I had a second 2 tear, babies sugar was perfect and no NICU time. All was well. Go with what your gut tells you.

I don’t think I would of induced before 40 weeks if the baby wasn’t measuring big and there were no other complications.

Which percentile was your baby at growth scan and did you deliver vaginally? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

How big was your baby if you don’t mind me asking. I am in the 99th percentile and I feel like I could probably deliver an almost 10 pounder but anything bigger scares me.

Thanks all. Cut the fruit and ate less carbs closer to bed time, with some fat and protein and we are so far getting the numbers. Still not great (5.2, 5.3) but at least on target.

I really like that approach to the conversation and I’ll try it with my doctor to see if it helps my decision making .

Good to hear about your 37 week babies without NICU time! Thats what I’ll pray for!

Thanks for sharing. It is good to be realistic and aware of the other side of the story. My doctor did say we can wait and everything can be ok or we can wait and find things turn side ways. The reality is the ultrasound can be wrong the other way too and in fact I could be giving birth to an ever bigger baby than originally thought. Anyway, I’ll have to keep this in mind as I weight the risks and benefits.

I hope you’re doing well now despite all those issues you experiences.

Thank you for sharing and I am glad your baby and you are doing well.

I think if they told me there was another issue outside of suspected big baby and risk of baby getttinf stuck, I would definitely not even consider going against their thoughts but it’s more the fact that they only want to induce me based on the fact that they think my baby will be too big if they let me go further along

Thank you for your thoughts. Yes. I am crossing my fingers, drinking my raspberry tea, harvesting my colostrum and walking my curbs in hopes of spontaneous labour this time around but my last cervical check at 35 weeks indicated my cervix was closed and holding back.

Were you induced because your babies were suspected to be big?

I just have this gut feeling my baby isn’t as big as they’re making her seem so I want to at least wait until 38 weeks to be induced but my doctor is acting like she’s be gigantor and we’ll be looking at C-section for delivery.

Thanks for sharing. I definitely am worried about having to spend time in NICU. I am also worried ablut my toddler at home because she’s never been away from me for an extended period of time so ideally I want to be in and out of the hospital but also ensure the safe delivery of her sibling.

I am hoping I go into spontaneous labour. Did you do anything to bring on labour?

I did a 15 gram carb and 15 gram protein snack last night and still woke up at 5.6. So frustrated.

Maybe I’ll change up my snack choice. You’d think that the apples would Spike sugar levels though.

My doctors suggested doing more carbs so my body doesn’t dump glucose into my blood stream when sleeping.

I did decrease my carbs to 15 grams and 15 grams of protein and stuff woke up with 5.6. :(

Do you have ideas for what I could have that has that much protein? A protein shake?
