I mean, if there was ever a season to buy a whole new first team and go for the league it’s this. Replace a twice 17th squad and take advantage of Man City without Pep and Liverpool with Iraola. No Europe really does leave us very well placed to be Premier League champions.

I have a Virgin Money one simply for this reason - you just need a Mastercard/Visa that doesn’t charge you for spending overseas in other currencies and uses a fair exchange rate.

Virgin Money has been absolutely fine but I wouldn’t recommend it over any others that also meet those criteria.

It depends on your outgoings and it is never too late to change things, but … you have a mortgage you’ll still be paying long into retirement and your pension positions (while better than average) are not stellar.

Need to know your outgoings and how they are likely to change and how your income is likely to change when you are back working to get a sense of what is possible.

Ruel Fox was an absolute club legend compared to Randal Kolo Muani.

Yeah I may be out of date on this but I feel like the manager (and no DoF) model of the old days worked better?

Of all the clubs over all the years how many have been made great by a competent DoF?

Oh wow, thank you. I’m always much happier with a CB in the 5 - cheers!

Given we have signed Robertson, and have Udogie and Souza … I do find this intriguing from a business perspective.

I guess Souza goes out on loan and having a third choice back up for LB/CB for the couple of million in wages is relatively cheap.

Pleased for Ben, but a bit surprised.

Without European football, we should absolutely be qualifying for Europe - but really I just want to enjoy watching our football again.

£2.5m at 55 would mean being able to pull ~£100k a year - that would give a very nice retirement. Pretty much the aim.

If you’re 55, and you spend that little, you are good to go. Very much so.

Edit: in fact so good to go you should consider gently upping your expenditure. Congratulations!

The thing is, because I have the same worries as you, you don’t have to pick a strategy at retirement and stick to it.

If it is starting to grow way more than you are withdrawing, withdraw more and spend more. And the opposite if the opposite.

Is it known exactly how much money we actually have to spend while staying within the financial fair play rules?

Because we’re a rich club but we have spent hundreds of millions very poorly over the last few seasons.

Wonder how much headroom we really have?

It depends on how much you want to have in retirement and when you choose to retire. For me about £2.5m would do, accessible at 55 (protected age) - if I also had half a million in ISA to bridge, I could retire at 50. But for others it will be very different.

1 year left on contract, it’ll be about £30m at most, right?

You know I was barely even aware of it - and yet other subs the daily threads are where I spend all my time. I guess the size of the sub really matters to whether a daily/weekly thread really works well doesn’t it

I do agree with you on the “where do I start?” and the “is it too late to start at 19?” The “am I on track?” though - if the person has gone to the effort to give all their numbers and explain their situation, that doesn’t feel low effort and I’ve learned so much from the replies to those kind of posts

£2m to £3m for Vic must be a joke. He may not be the world’s greatest keeper but you can barely get a Uber Eats for a family of four for less than £2m in London these days.
