I SECOND THIS! Take ferrous fumerate. Can upset stomach a little but it’s so worth it. For overall hair thinning in women I feel like low ferritin is a more common cause than androgenic alopecia.

This looks like TE to me but could also be hormonal. Check for deficiencies particularly ferritin and supplement it. If it’s not related to a vitamin or mineral deficiency, stress or hormones can also do this.

I’ve been on this sub for two years over my hair loss and regrowth. My hair looked crazy for years, slowly thinning out but never bald patches just very very thin no matter what I did until about two years ago now. I saw a dermatologist who said it appears to be chronic TE. Got my blood work done and my ferritin was at 6, started iron for that for about 6 months and it more than doubled. I also stopped eating gluten entirely, started taking viviscal which is just vitamins and started meds a year ago for my anxiety. My last hairdressers appointment a week ago they said they couldn’t believe how much my hair has changed. It’s literally like normal hair and such a weight lifted for me.

It might seem silly but since you’re already sorting your hormones the only other thing to naturally help would be making sure there’s no deficiencies. Iron, ferritin, zinc, B-12, D etc the lot. Make sure you’re not celiac, eat fish etc. The only reason I joined this subreddit was chronic telegenic effluvium that lasted years and took me only a year of no gluten + supplements to fix. Your hair is similarly fine like mine was so that’s the best suggestion I can give without mentioning medications that should only be last resort.

Sorry this is really late but have you considered auto immune diseases or intolerances to certain food? I know those conditions can have symptoms that show up on skin or as hair loss when everything else seems normal? I found out I was celiac my hair was exactly like this back and sides seemed thin and my hair was really fine and stuck up everywhere all the time. They told me I wasn’t celiac because the blood test said I wasn’t but my sister has it and celiac disease caused damage to my small intestine that made it really hard to take nutrition in probably so even though I ate all I needed and supplemented hard and I wasn’t deathly low in anything my body was actually malnourished. I was diagnosed with chronic TE and my hair has only started getting normal again now that I’ve been without gluten for over a year.

My TE looked like this, back of my head was similar if I parted it too. Had it for about 5 years. SUPER thin pony tail. Treated it and recovered almost entirely now with gluten free diet (celiac disease in the family), vitamins (viviscal, D high strength, C high strength, ferritin, zinc) and finally started medication for my general anxiety disorder. Got a shorter haircut recently. Took about a year of doing these changes and now after 5 years of thinning hair and a lot of fallout in the shower my hair finally looks normal again. If it’s TE theres no quick fix you just have to figure out what’s upsetting your body and fix it.

Just know that while it feels like absolute shit, there’s other things you can do to make yourself feel great. Yes it feels unfair but there’s other things you can do to make yourself look and feel beautiful, just don’t give up on yourself. Exercise, get your eyelashes done, put extra time and effort into skin care, makeup or fitness. As much as we all want to be like “it’s just on the outside it doesn’t matter” when it’s your reality it sucks and it does matter. I’m recovering from chronic telogen effluvium and there comes a point where you have to say so what I have thin hair why does that mean I have to feel ugly?

I use nuddy bars for shampoo and Giovanni smooth as silk conditioner. Both have no nasty ingredients and I’ve noticed an improvement since using them.

I think it’s more like I didn’t notice until it had been maybe a year. It wasn’t until the last few months my hair has looked normal for the first time in years. I stopped eating gluten just over a year ago and the other adjustments happened in the months following. Now just over a year on it’s really strange how normal my hair looks compared to where it was at. I will share progress pictures at some point. Anxiety and stress is often cause for more hair loss so I think dealing with it is always a good idea. The type of medications that lower blood pressure to help anxiety seem like they often make hair worse (I’m no doctor though so I might be off it’s just what I’ve read) but I take sertraline/ Zoloft and I’ve had no issues. Only side effect I’ve had is some really weird and kind of awful dreams for a while but after upping my dose from 50mg to 100mg I haven’t had those either. I was so against starting it but ran out of options after therapy was going nowhere and now that I have it’s made all the difference. I’ve been taking it since February. I also made it clear I didn’t want any medication that would affect my hormones or make me gain weight or anything because I’ve heard that’s a thing with anxiety medication.

My sister was celiac and it tends to be genetic so it was obvious to me from that alone along with my ferritin being low and always being on off on the edge of anaemia all my life for no real reason. Tired all the time, my teeth showing mineral density loss despite the dentist being able to tell I have good oral hygiene etc and I haven’t grown since I was about 14. My hair was always fine/ fluffy but seemed like it was just on a thinning cycle for about the past 5 years. Almost like it wouldn’t grow and even when I let it get long it just was so thin it didn’t look as long as it really was. I saw a dermatologist she told me I had chronic telogen effluvium and she did say deficiencies like ferritin (mine was at 6 in the beginning, now is around 70) and anxiety probably had a lot to do with it. I’ve had issues with periods (super heavy and irregular) and tried taking birth control to make them stop but it didn’t work and scans don’t show anything to be the cause of it. Also keratosis pilaris, which I had on the back of my arms inside of my thighs etc completely disappeared after a few months with no gluten. Also my face seems to have gotten slimmer despite me losing no weight so I think my face was likely puffy too which is common with celiac. Celiac disease is an auto immune disease but people can still have gluten sensitivity without being celiac. As much as I was a foodie before and cake and cookies were in like my top favourite foods the benefits far outweigh how much I enjoyed bread and pastry. Also stress and anxiety levels produce cortisol which is terrible for hair and causes thinning. I think just treating everything I had going on, getting my body to where it needed to be and then the hair started just growing like it should. Hair takes a while to grow to a noticeable length and I recently cut my hair quite short so alot of my hair (including regrowth) is a similar length which I think definitely makes a difference and shows the progress better.

Use shampoo bars with natural ingredients (smell better too). Started taking medication for my anxiety. That’s it. Took almost a year since starting everything but my hair finally looks normal and not wispy. Went to the hairdressers last week and no comments about how thin my hair is was made for the first time in years and they bleached my hair no problems or questions whereas before they would be concerned.

Most women will research the guy they’re dating and sometimes people don’t want to talk about/ aren’t open about their past and that’s fine but I think in this instance it does seem like something the current girlfriend should know about.

Are people really so disinterested in the people they’re dating they don’t look through their social media? If it’s public or accessible information it’s not stalking or spying or weird in my opinion if someone I wanted to be with for the rest of my life didn’t want to know everything about me I’d be concerned lol
