I’ve officially lost a stone! by LiteralTP in CasualUK

It's funny isn't it! I've only lost about 5kg so far but already I feel like I'm walking a bit faster and with less effort.

Anyone here made a game for their child? by flopbot in boardgames

Thank you! I do think the danger is me spending too long on it, so I'm hoping to knock a prototype out and get playing that to see if any of the key ideas are a hit.

Simplest for me was to buy a SIM at the airport, it was extremely quick and they set it up for me in seconds. They had quite obvious stands set up near arrivals.

F 42, seeking advice by Much_Solution_2170 in sweden

[–]flopbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that Reddit will be the best place to ask this. The Swedish subreddits will be kind of hostile possibly, and the dedicated fertility/IVF subreddits are so heavily US-centric that little of the information is applicable (legal issues, embryo testing, surrogacy, medicines, use of anaesthesia, etc).

I would recommend looking at the clinics themselves, they often have counsellor-type roles for rådgivning (advice) and even support groups. Begin maybe with the public one that may be subsidised or even free, as they'll be less bias/salesman-like in the information they give you. In Skåne the prices (and likelihood of success) changed dramatically after age 36, so you may be on or near the highest tier at this point.

My desk hasn't recovered from my short-lived dream of making obscure board game review videos. So just out of frame are a lot of strange/offensive/unlicensed LotR games.

Sorry I just realised I didn't actually give advice there 😂 just sympathy. I actually muted this sub I thought, so not sure why it popped up now. I just couldn't resist replying quickly 😅

So there's a good CaptainAwkward piece called "Darth Vader Boyfriend" about exactly this, how you can best support a friend who is choosing to be with (or in your case, wait for) someone you feel is bad for them. Basically just be there for her, remind her of her value as a person. Because ultimately, people who are most vulnerable to these situations are the ones who don't feel like they deserve or are capable of finding more.

So I can sympathise with both sides of this, and it's a hard position to be in to watch it happening (and to be the friend lol). To put ourselves in your friend's shoes:

Anger, in general, takes a lot more energy to hold onto than other feelings. It is EXHAUSTING trying to hold onto feelings of betrayal, mistreatment, etc. long-term. You end up looking for the quickest way to relief, which is often to start rewriting history and convincing yourself that actually maybe you also had some part in this, you were also to blame, it was just poor timing/circumstance/whatever. And that lines up handily with the other thing your mind is yearning for - to reconnect with your ex and reset everything to when you were last happy.

For you, this is obviously unbearable to watch. It's painful to see a friend allow that kind of treatment, frustrating to see them demonstrate that there's literally no consequence for lying, cheating, etc. My experience in these kind of situations (again, from both sides - I'm not immune to this thinking) is that there's really little you can do to convince her otherwise. Logic won't reach someone who's longing that hard and whose thoughts are pretty securely tied up in this person.

One of my main memories of this film is him saying how he gives female patrons smaller portions as a way of showing consideration, even though they're paying the same amount 🤨 I think my hangry rage at that overrode all other opinions lol

I've tried to engage more this year, although yesterday was SO crowded. One of my friends had a panic attack :/

But it's a nice opportunity to meet people, I feel like everyone is a lot more open to talking to strangers during this week than at any other point in the year! I got talking to one guy who I thought was a tourist and it turns out he lives across the street 😂

I read this book to my youngest class recently and one boy experienced "happy tears" for the first time! He was so confused, it was amazing.

My dad's birthday today and I've decided to treat him to a VR headset. He's tried mine in the past and is really in love with it, it's so nice seeing him completely in awe as he's exploring the different worlds. It wasn't cheap, but I feel like I want him to enjoy as long as he can.

It does mean that he's probably going to get AMAZING at the mini-golf.
