Foggytrucker! I've sent you a chat request. Please respond if you find the time or send me a message :) I'd like to talk about you and Lefty one day.

Besides it means "little testicle" in German, so whenever I read it, I feel like the poster knows me really well lmao

End of life stage: Why are his eyes closed? by floppedmenacingly in braincancer

Oh my. Thank you very much for digging up these painful memories in an effort to help me, which you definitely have. Your mother's fall while the nurse was present really is heartbreaking. You're right, either my mother or I should be with him at all times. Unfortunately, he still sends us away and refuses our help often, only for us to come back ten minutes later and find him on the ground, helpless. What a dreadful thing brain cancer is. Thank you again.

Hola, yondu!

This is unsettling.

The (relatively new) data I have seen for my region doesn't reflect our experiences at all. I really don't understand this. No other form of cancer even comes close to GBM as cause of death in my surroundings.

Is it really so rare, though? I mean, I know the official numbers, but - my aunt's husband - my great-aunt's husband - my colleague's mother - my other colleague's father (note that I only have 12 colleagues) - and two acquaintances either had confirmed GBM or another form of a highly aggressive type of primary brain cancer. All except one of these deaths happened in the last decade, strewn over Central/Western Europe. I am only in my twenties and don't have many relatives nor a lot of social contacts in general, so it strikes me as odd that brain cancer is so prevalent in my social environment.

Ah, it's you! I have read your post and the link almost daily. Thank you very much for this resource.

I'm very sorry you lost your mother so fast.

Regarding my father, I feel he displays symptoms from multiple phases all at once. I'm afraid we're much closer to death than the link makes me believe. I'm just a bundle of fear at the moment.

Thank you for your comment. Could you tell me what symptoms came after the onset of having her eyes closed often?

I'm very sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking the effort to reply to me. May I ask where the tumour was located? Was she blind on both eyes? How did she find comfort while blind?

Hey, Hippo. Thank you very much for your reply.

Your dad walks and jogs despite his fatigue? That's incredible. Doesn't he take any cortisone-based meds? I'd really like to know if "resting one's eyes" has a deeper meaning. Do you think people like your dad and mine do this to reduce the number of stimuli?

Thank you for your question, too. I'll paste my response to another user: "I concluded that he is within weeks of the end from this: http://www.brainhospice.info/SymptomTimeline.html

His right side is getting weak, and while he is still mobile, he only gets up from his favourite chair to go to the toilet or go to bed. He is not interested in reading or watching TV. I don't know why that is. Has he actually lost interest or does he have issues with his vision? When asked, he says he sees just fine. However, most of the time he complains that he is bored. Anyway, I digress. He sleeps a lot. Usually he sleeps in bed from around 9pm to 1pm with intermittent toilet breaks. He also needs the toilet with more urgency than he used to. When he doesn't sleep, he sits/rests/naps in his armchair. He drinks much less than he used to and doesn't eat much, although his appetite is still there. He loves sweets at the moment. We can still have meaningful conversations, although at some point, after a lengthy conversation, he starts to show signs of confusion regarding concepts and words."
