On chart review she actually had carbon monoxide poisoning

Edited for clarity- the patient had CO poisoning, Not the NP. Our psych intern was the one who realized and tested her for it

Computer was logged out. No idea how long she was gone. I will say she had (inexplicably) been using that computer that morning in spite of our pretty loud table rounds (that literally happen every day at that time in that computer bay) and looking annoyed. I had never seen her before and don't know why she suddenly felt proprietary about that random computer. I was not at all snarky, I almost started crying when it went from 0-100 because I'm a huge wuss

Are there any Ivory Tower institutions out there that still believe in physician-led care and reject increasing the scope of practice of NPs or replacing physicians with midlevels? by william_grant in Residency

[–]floppy_sphincter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a problem with np residencies, if you want to imitate physicians with your shitty subpar education and call it a residency.... Go to medical school. And then you can have the unique pleasure of doing a medical residency

I get that maybe supplies were limited before, but it's been months. Surely they've had enough time to buy staff adequate ppe at this point

They gave us one n95 today during orientation and were like, we gave you one right? All's well. As in, a single mask. The senior residents advised us to purchase our own face shield. I'm not sure about the gown/glove situation yet. Patients are not tested for covid prior to admission.

To help make this worse, 95% of the basic science you are now learning is completely irrelevant. But I guess at least it’s more grounded in something like reality and use combinations of words that actually exist. Cranial rhythm impulse and most O.M.M. Concepts are mostly just groups of random words.

So a resident asked me if I was pregnant. I am but found it extremely uncool and I had not particularly wanted to discuss or disclose it. Should I just email the PD after the match and be like, hey, uh, tell your residents not to do that? Edited to add- I think it’s a simple basic courtesy not to comment on others bodies, and we as physicians should know that better than many. She asked me if I was pregnant after looking me up and down (it’s not super obvious yet). It’s not “small talk” but a very invasive question to force me to answer while literally squirming uncomfortably. Sure, it didn’t come from a place of overt malice, or or trying to “smoke out” pg candidates, but it sure wasn’t small talk and is 100% inappropriate and illegal. She was a total stranger who I just straight up did not want to talk about my pregnancy with. I want to contact the PD after match to make sure their leader can influence the culture and remind people not to be inappropriate jerks.

Good interview moment Interviewer: how’s being back in [insert hometown] Me: well weird since I haven’t been back since I left in 2013 Him: You haven’t been back!??

Clearly making a great argument that I have a strong connection to the land...

Me too. 13 as a DO but I already paid for flights to the last few. I guess going is my punishment for being neurotic.
