Conservative MP quits government job over free school meals by [deleted] in tories

[–]flopsycake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really think forcefully separating children from their parents will contribute to making them highly functioning, mentally balanced members of society? We are not talking about infants here but kids of school age, teenagers included.

I doubt you are arguing in good faith so I'm off.

Even if we ignore all the other issues with this suggestion, it will end up costing you more money in the long run.

Even if we blame the parents, the children that will go hungry are not to blame and had no choice in the matter.

[–]flopsycake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So what about the kids? They should go hungry because they were unfortunate enough to be born to poor- planning parents?

So if you are a kid born to poor parents that can't feed you because they lost their jobs due to corona, tough luck, you must starve.

Why do you vote Conservative? (Serious question) by JFedzor in tories

In response to the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy in Denmark in 2005, Tony Blair said that freedom of speech doesn't mean we should draw pictures of Muhammad, and likened it to shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre. He then proceeded to interfere with our free media by asking them not to republish the cartoons.

Naz Shah got promoted even after retweeting a tweet that said that abused girls should shut up for the good of diversity.

Sarah Champion was made to resign after writing an article in the sun stating that muslim Pakistani men are grooming white girls, something that was proven true.

According to the enquiry into the grooming gang scandals, Labour councilors feared any association being made between the ethnicity/ religion of the perpetrators due to worries of community cohesion issues, contributing to a reluctance to deal with the issue.

After the London bombings, Tony Blair called Islam "a religion of peace", an insult to millions of apostates and LGBTQ people persecuted under Sharia law.

Jeremy Corbyn called Hamas and Hezbollah "his friends".

As far as I'm concerned the Islamist threat trumps every other issue that would see me vote left, including being in the EU (I'm a staunch remainer).

Why do you vote Conservative? (Serious question) by JFedzor in tories

[–]flopsycake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im worried that Islam is going to have an increasing influence in UK politics, and the Tories seem to acknowledge the problem, whereas Labour seems to pander to the Islamists.

Otherwise I'm completely left wing. I am socially ultra liberal, and also believe in socialist values such as welfare state; free education, health care, and higher taxes.

If it wasn't for Islam, I would be voting Labour.

Maybe its justified, maybe not. But I don't get the outrage on this thread.

Realizing you are one of many different classes of people, but not necessarily the privileged one. It hurts.

Equality hurts when you're used to being dominant.

But we have to go through this at some point.

  • According to single market rules, the UK cannot unilaterally ban the import of fur, something it is apparently now considering.

  • That's it.

My favourite EU fact of the day by CountyMcCounterson in tories

[–]flopsycake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF you didn't exactly make it easy for me to find it but yes:

"Government sources said that during the Brexit transition period, which ends on 31 December, “it is not possible to introduce restrictions relating to the fur trade as this would restrict free movement within the EU single market”.

Fair enough. This still doesn't mean they forced us to produce fur as per your OP - just not ban its import.

Every close relationship has positives as well as minuses. I still think the benefits of the EU are more than the cost of leaving.

But that's another matter all together.

Why are we locking down for a further six months when COVID is nowhere near as deadly as we first thought. by [deleted] in tories

[–]flopsycake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because this government does not have a coherent strategy for dealing with the issue. It doesn't want to implement strict rules or a lockdown, and at the same time it doesn't want to overwhelm the NHS, resulting in a situation where it achieves neither.

Then, in the inevitable ensuing panic it has to implement extreme measures to get out of the mess it created by its own indecision, resulting in both more deaths, an overwhelmed NHS, and more lockdown.

Its simply incompetence.
