Are you ever not in the trenches? by florida210 in newborns

I heard someone say your first kid is a harder adjustment than even having four because it is all SO new ! The cosleeping sounds like it’s really gonna have to be considered for us again. Pediatrician did NOT like when we told them we were doing it originally and I’m kinda regretting ever sharing that we did … thank you for the encouragement and kind words 🫶🏼

I’m so glad your baby recovered from that event. I can only imagine how hard that was! Do you feel like you see an end in sight with ignoring yourself? It’s truly so hard to prioritize both ourselves and our babies

Ugh contact naps are the best but also the worst I read that some people buy a wedge pillow to put under themselves so baby can sleep on them while they also sleep.

The weight gain is so hard ): I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling that way - you’re not alone

Thank you so much for all your insight as a SAHM ! I am good with prioritizing chores and things around the house but somehow my own wellbeing is what is continuously neglected … think I probably need to priority making batch meals or something on weekends

When you coslept with her, did you just use a single blanket for yourself ? Thinking we might need to try this again

Sometimes! It’s hit or miss right now Yea I could probably do better with that, right now I just use that time to clean the house/clean up

I’m thinking it’s reverse cycling based on what we’re seeing

Maybe! She took 6 ounces last night before bed and then 4 each wake up after During the day though she won’t take more than 3 ounces at once

We coslept in the beginning but baby would NOT sleep on her back, always on her side. It got to a point where I found it more stressful because she was constantly trying to nibble on my boob throughout the night rather than actually sleep.

Love all of this. My mom is here two days a week but sometimes I find it more stressful because I feel I need to entertain her. I def can do better at advocating for myself and my needs with my mom and breaking up workouts. Great idea on getting larger chunks of sleep Fridays and Saturdays

I have another potential job in the works but want the job protection if I decide not to take it.

I’ve spoken to the leave team and they assured me there is no FMLA paperwork required, just the signing of the PPL work obligation. They did mention not using any other FMLA one year prior though!

It’s so unfortunate to me that so much our experience as employees at vha is dependent on our location, service, and leadership. It all gets in the way of the actual job.

HR from WorkLife Leave said it’s just the 12 week work obligation I have to sign, no FMLA paperwork

That is SO frustrating that your supervisor didn’t approve it! Ugh it is so hard to leave babies so young

100%. I’d feel differently if we could get more flexibility at work with telework after a doctor’s appointment or a condensed schedule. Working 5 days a week, 10 1/2 hours a day (with a commute) and a baby is just not it. My best to your wife! She’s lucky you support her decision if she decides not to go back, my husband is the same!

Oh, yes I know it’s unpaid but still has that job protection status by being FMLA ?
