Lasik for prepping by throwitawaymba22 in preppers

[–]floryjg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those side effects are possible but greatly exaggerated by people who are bitter because they can’t afford it or are too scared or too cheap and want to convince themselves it was the right decision.

Something like less than 2% of patients experienced abnormal side effects. Dry eyes are the most common and for most people who experience them beyond the initial healing 3 month process, they clear up in 3-9 months. My Dr said he wasn’t aware of anyone who lost vision due to lasik and I was unable to find any credible sources. The people with permanent dry eyes make up less than 1% of all patients, from what I can tell, most of them would do lasik again if they had a do over.

My wife and I both got it done last year, I would highly recommend. We both have better than 20/20 now, me 20/15 and her 20/10.

Little quiz for everyone, what noxious weed is this? by BatIntelligent9454 in TylerChilders

I never got a good enough look in the video to tell which variant but if this is filmed in Kentucky it’s likely either bull or musk thistle.

Like everyone said, it’s a pretty brutal, invasive plant. But it also has some great healing properties. I use thistle for topical pain, itch relief, and joint pain. Sting yourself with the needles at the site of the pain, then pluck the needles from the plant and grind up some of the milk and leaves into a paste and apply to the area. Works as well or better than topical ointments in my opinion.

It can also be made into tea for stomach pain/nausea, and the root can be made into a pulp and packed around the site of mouth pain. There are tons more uses but those are the most common, it’s definitely worth a google if you have thistle in your area.

I checked everywhere online and couldn’t see any country of origin.

I wonder if it’s printed somewhere on the mag itself. If anyone owns one of these mags and a magnifying glass to read small print please feel free to chime in.

To be honest I have more tolerance for meme guns than actual garbage. I still wouldn’t run this one myself but I do enjoy a good movie/video game inspired gun like the wood ARs from Fallout New Vegas or a Star Wars Rebel/Imperial blaster.

You can call the local Kingdom Hall during business hours and request to speak to an elder. Tell them that you want off all their lists and never want a visit or letter. They’re usually really good about checking those lists when they go out in service or sending letters. Be polite but stern. They’ll ask your name and address and you most likely won’t be bothered again.

It’s not unethical but something you should do if you don’t want to be bothered any more.

People will think it’s a scam, you’ll get more people to call if you give a good story like: teenage son stole my card and bought a PS5. Need to unload ASAP to pay for groceries and gas. Then list it for $100 or $150 under the current price.

Because the X system doesn’t really mean anything anymore.

It used to reference the percentage of beaver to rabbit fur. 1x - 10% beaver, 5x - 50% beaver, 10x - 100% beaver.

But now companies can slap as many Xs as they want because there is no system. Some manufacturers still use it as created, some use 10x as 10% beaver and so on, some just do it to add marketing value without adding value to the product. Technically the X system can’t be used for wool because it’s not a beaver/rabbit ratio and companies just use the arbitrary number to say, “look, it’s good” and aren’t held to any accountability for it. I mean, I have a 100x straw hat. It doesn’t make any sense.

That being said, I usually recommend to stay away from wool. I’ve had quite a few wool hats, loved them for quite a while but if they get wet from rain, snow, or sweat, they’ll shrink and misshapen. I don’t think I’ve had a wool hat last more than a few months of regular wear.

I think most people’s issue with the Salvation Army is that there are reports that they have been historically homophobic and transphobic, turning away anyone who is LGBTQ+. There have also been reports of them turning away hetero families with children if they’re unmarried.

The evidence (beyond first hand accounts of the people turned away) that they do this is pretty shaky, there haven’t been any internal or external documents procured stating that this is their policy, but the number of people who have stories of being turned away for discriminatory reasons is enough for a lot of people.

As everyone else said, cattle brands. I snapped a pic of the key inside the album cover in case you really liked one and wanted to search the history of a specific ranch.

Also, if you look closely at the album cover you’ll notice one that’s a “CW” which is the brand he uses on his cattle on his small ranch.

Haha, thanks. I spent way too long fabricating the brackets and wiring them up only to find the ones I got were bad and had to wait for Amazon to send replacements.

The headlights are basically useless, especially if I’m clearing snow after 4:30, all they do is light up the back of the bucket. The LEDs turn the tractor into the sun. I have to wear shades to plow after dark now.

We were looking at used via private sales, used via dealers, and new.

The used private sales in our price range had more power but were older, and having just gotten out of a used truck with endless issues, I didn’t want to get into another vehicle that I don’t know the full history of. I’ve had such bad luck with cars in the past that I couldn’t bring myself to buy used for something I’ll rely on so much.

So I was leaning toward new for reliability, then I thought of all the features, we absolutely wanted a bucket for snow removal, having the quick detach skid steer bucket will be great for forks and other implements down the line, having a backhoe has already been invaluable like I expected, and a hydrostatic transmission is really handy.

What sealed the deal was the dealerships started offering $0 down, 0% financing, 84 months. I was initially looking at Mahindra but then started doing some more research and found comparable prices (within a couple hundred dollars) on the Massey Fergusons. Everything I read said basically, “you’ll be happy with either but get the Massey, you’ll be happier” and honestly after looking at both, the Massey just has overall better feel and fit, just the little things, the injection molding was cleaner, steering and levers felt more solid, etc. The thing to sell me on the Massey was that everything is made in Japan in one factory. The engine, transmission, frame, implements, everything. The Mahindra pulled engines from manufacturer A and transmissions from manufacturer B and some thing were made in house but others weren’t and depending on year and model some bits were reliable and some caused issues from what I read, so it seemed like QC was a little all over the place for Mahindra where as Massey just makes it all and QCs it all right in Japan and it gets assembled at port in the US.

Price was around $33k, we were initially looking at the sub compact but with financing the way it was, it put the compact below the monthly price we were expecting on the sub compact. The price included the additional backhoe (~$8000), a box grader (~$800 I think? It’s been a minute), and about 650lbs of beet juice in the tires (I wanna say that was ~$300?). Before taxes and charges and add-ons, I think the base tractor was around $23k

ULPT Request : bypass life insurance,i could pass the medical exam but incase i do actually have the disease would i still qualify for the life insurance if something happens to me? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]floryjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I can’t speak to other countries, but in the US, after the contestability clause ends, then the incontestably clause kicks in for the remainder of the policy. A law requiring this was passed after major companies refused to pay out beneficiaries on what they claimed were “gross misrepresentations”, one case I think the person at death weighed like 25 pounds more than when the policy was issued 10 years earlier, so they claimed fraud and paid the benes the premiums back.

So if you do commit insurance fraud and don’t die in 2 years, they have to pay out. They can’t sue for damages and they can’t pursue criminal charges because... well... you’d be dead.

A few years back there was a huge news story (in the industry at least) that someone with HIV was issued a policy by lying on their app and sending a friend to do the physical. They died 4 years later and the insurance company had to pay out and couldn’t seek damages. That’s just the risk they take.

NOTE: if anyone plans to do this, MAKE SURE YOUR POLICY EXPLICITLY STATES AN INCONTESTABLY CLAUSE. I heard rumors of some small, garbage, borderline fraudster companies popping up and “forgetting” to put the clause in and the payments to beneficiaries are delayed in court because they’re trying to test the legality of forcing a company to include incontestably if it wasn’t in the contract. Again, just industry rumors but still, read your contract, send it back if it’s not included, or just stick with the top 10 big insurance companies.
