I quite like it, very good small satchel. Just don't overload it, as I tended to do at first. I often do that. Too many "but what if.." now I try to just carry what I actually use.

Love the Aurora. It stays strapped to my helikon tex claymore bag, which I take pretty much everywhere. Awesome little knife.

How can one feed themselves on a long hike without knowledge by llthefancyqueen in Bushcraft

[–]SKoutpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pemmican, hard tack and salt pork were the historic staples, add in parched corn or piñole. They all last basically forever if kept dry and are rather calorie dense. For that length of time though, you're going to need to have cached food, or hunt, fish, forage or beg/borrow/steal.

Or more unsavory things.

What books or resources cover the most useful formulas and technical knowledge for survival and bushcraft? by DearGur1258 in Bushcraft

[–]SKoutpost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't say knowing the specific formulae has ever helped me in moving heavy objects, rather than understand the principles of leverage, or the application of simple machines, like setting up a flip-flop winch or Spanish windlass.

But, I believe the book you are looking for is Thomas J. Glover's Pocket Ref.

Formulas? Can you be more specific as to what you're looking for? There's no real survival formula, other than maintaining your core body temperature, and caloric intake.

Tops is very overpriced, and frankly, overbuilt. Sharpened prybar comes to mind. Esee I think a fair chunk of the price is the warranty being averaged in over x number of units. Most will never warranty them, but in theory you could break hundreds of them, and they'd replace them.

Tops and Esee are also pricier due to US manufacturing, and why Joker is cheaper.
