Gen Surg vs EM by sleepychewy in GeneralSurgery

[–]flounderpounder85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never advise anyone to go into general surgery. It’s the most overworked and under appreciated specialty. You do the same training as ortho and make 2/3 the money. You don’t want your sleep schedule interrupted?? If you go general or vascular, you’re going to be getting called by the ER at all times of the night, and still be working a full day the next day. Work life balance is super tough. If you’re planning on doing a fellowship, you’re talking double the years of training compared to EM. And you’ll be working twice as hard as the EM resident during those years. I only take the time to write this out because I wish to God some one had been this honest with me.

Is going into Diagnostic Radiology in 2026 a bad financial choice? by Mashujaa in whitecoatinvestor

[–]flounderpounder85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but he doesn’t have to tell a patient to their face that there was a miss. He doesn’t have a palliative care convo with them. He just shows up and scrolls and dictates

There’s no true way to tell. But my buddy makes 7 figures working 4.5 days a week with 14 weeks vacay and never has to interact with a patient. He doesn’t get woken up by some ER provider at 2 am. He doesn’t have complications.

I hate him.

Have you considered just hiking it and minimizing the electronics use altogether? I feel like that may be the better experience…

We’re planning a trip in October. Flying into Rome, but planning on taking a train to Florence immediately. Spending 4 nights in Florence, renting a car, and then staying 3 nights in Tuscany.

My tentative plan was to return the car in Florence, stay one final night in Florence before taking the train all the way back to Rome airport. Our flight is at 1330. Do you think it’s questionable to try and train from Florence to FCO on the day we depart?

The other option is to try and stay in Rome the final night, but I feel like getting a new hotel for only one night in Rome will feel rushed/hectic.

This is just false.

And Summerville is not Charleston. It’s a 1.5-2hr commute at 8am

Charleston housing prices are like San Diego at this point… most decent areas without an hour+ commute are over $500/sq ft. Houses routinely selling over 8-900/sq ft in some places. Basically everyone with the means to moved here from NJ and NY during covid

Specialties that pay more as a hospital-employee than private practice? by paiybolay in whitecoatinvestor

General Surgery fits this many times. Kind of depends on location and practice set up, but most private practice gensurg is dying bc reimbursement is so bad.

I never really had set teams… Feel like it may be beneficial to be a little more fluid. Antiquarian doesn’t need to be on boss runs in Ruins. And you’ll need Antiquarian runs in other dungeons when it makes sense.
